I'm of a mind to, once again, lay down midi drum parts for my next album. I've watched enough drumeo videos to get some ideas I probably won't implement, but it's the thought that counts.

I think I want to use Logic Pro less. I'm getting lazy with the drums, though the LP midi system is quite good, or perhaps because of it. And I have a lot more memory to work with off of the laptop where Logic Pro lives. Who knows? I might go crazy with tracks.

My aging DAW is corrupting my older MIDI files so I have to spend HOURS manually realigning and correcting MIDI notes. I want it to step out of this computer so I can flight it.

В прошлой статье мы рассмотрели, как создать простой синтезатор на основе Raspberry Pi Pico. Звуки на основе синусоиды интересны, но хочется получить звук реального инструмента с его уникальным тембром. Если вы думаете, что достаточно просто проигрывать записанный звук для каждой ноты, то, по крайней мере, для Raspberry Pi такой подход не сработает из-за ограниченных ресурсов. А вот использование звуковых шрифтов (SoundFont), которые придумали ещё в прошлом веке, поможет решить задачу. Изобретать велосипед и реализовывать обработку SoundFont-файлов с нуля мы не будем, а воспользуемся готовой библиотекой TinySoundFont. Изучение технологии SoundFont и то, как устроены звуковые банки вообще, даёт много в понимании синтеза звука. В этой статье мы подключим библиотеку TinySoundFont к Raspberry Pi Pico, устраним главный недостаток библиотеки — загрузку всего SoundFont в оперативную память, и заставим синтезатор читать семплы напрямую из флеш-памяти.

Took a while to work out how to arrange these two optimally, but in terms of sonics, fake Commodore 64 SID chip synthesis paired with Casio phase distortion synthesis is a combo to die for.

Yes, it needs to go through a reverb to give the CZ-1 Mini pads their proper cold splendour, but the TherapKid's onboard arpeggiator is pretty much all that lad needs for an ideal compact 80s digital setup.

Oh, and there's a CME H4MIDI WC interface hidden behind the stand.

It repeatedly drives me bananas that I can't just sit down and record directly from this thing...

• because the line-out jack cuts off the speakers
• and I haven't been able to figure out how to get to the enclosure where the line-out jack is wired, so I can rewire it.

The line-out is also the headphones jack, so it's not like I can leave a pair of headphones plugged in so that all I have to do is plug in the line-out.

What I have to do, because this is not a dedicated recording setup, is set it to playing the demo, plug in the line-out, then go back over to the computer to adjust the levels (using software which does the bare-bones of what it needs to do -- I can't just load a "keyboard recording" profile; I have to mousually (musually?) adjust each slider, including turning down those which normally are used for other things...

I'm seriously looking at getting another e-piano (preferably one with weighted keys and which sounds Really Good, of course) -- but of the dozens I've looked at, almost none of them show a photo of the back panel (every other angle, yes) and few if any describe the analog I/O options.

I suppose if I were a Real Keyboardist™, I'd have a set of really good sounds loaded on the computer and just play them through MIDI. I've figured out how to do the "play music on the PC via MIDI' part, but not the "recording those sounds" or "really high-quality samples" parts.

(Open to ideas, or suggestions for a better keyboard, suggestions for open-source audio-input mixing software that does profiles...)
