One of the things that doesn't get mentioned much about the #COVID #ChipShortage is how long leadtimes have gotten. If you recently got a #ploopy product, it probably contains parts ordered in 2021 or even 2020.

The discourse on the topic often makes it feel like an Inevitable Law of the Universe, but my experience is that there are (some) companies who have discovered they can treat their customers poorly and get away with it. And they've chosen to just...keep doing that.

Today I'm going down the rabbit hole of DS18B20 chip fakes 🤨.

A quick test of a batch of fakes I bought here in Argentina (because those seem to be the only ones you can buy on the local market) revealed that they measure about -2 C with respect to a real Maxim DS18B20. What a 💩.

I trust the Maxim one because it is within 0.2 C of some Sensirion sensors I have here.
