For a while now we've been dreaming of building boats ( starting with a #proa ) from old discarded #windturbine blades. Unfortunately despite sending close to a hundred emails (companies, universities, foundations etc) we can't seem to reach anyone with access to them.
So maybe the power of social media and the #fediverse will do the trick 😊

♻ A #WindTurbine parts factory under construction in the #UK has secured £225m of investment.
#SeAhWindUK* said the money for the site at #Teesworks Freeport, near #Redcar, will increase its capacity to build bigger parts.
It will make monopiles - the structures that support offshore wind turbines - which will then be exported to #Europe and the #US.
*The manufacturing firm is owned by #SouthKorea's SeAH Steel Holding, which broke ground at #Teesworks in 2022.

The world's largest #steelmill will get a second life as a #windturbine factory
The US Department of Transportation Maritime Administration awarded $47.4 million to the new factory, called #SparrowsPointSteel becoming #Maryland’s first permanent #offshorewind turbine factory. Near the Port of #Baltimore, of what used to be #BethlehemSteel, which was founded in 1887 and became the world’s largest steel producer in the 1950s, with 30,000 workers.

A big #offshorewind company is building a #fishfarm inside a #windturbine's foundation
Mingyang Smart Energy, #China’s largest private wind turbine maker, is making an 500MW offshore wind turbine foundation that features a net cage for #fishfarming.
Mingyang says that the fish raised in the turbine’s net cage will be comparable to wild fish and will be less impacted by nearshore marine pollution.
