The vaporwave theme was the first one I thought of adding a background to, and the last one to get "finished". Spousey saw an earlier version and asked why the bubble's background was just solid blue. So I started thinking about reflection and refraction.

While working on the physics engine mentioned in my last post I needed a visualization of the path they moved on to verify that the collision works right.

After working with many different game and physics engines I decided to work on my own physics engine and maybe extend it later for games.

During experiments and debugging, I get interesting forms and patterns, that I want to share.

Here's a hair like structure made with a vector-flow-field added variables for example for the transparency and a circular constraint.

In the last Genuary I made this looking more like fur and I wanted to come back to it.
Also, my hair looks a little like this. ;)

Today, I picked sine and cosine and combined them with some alpha values. I have many results and I will post some others of this session, too.

But here's a circle with a sine wave as the radius and this looped while changing radius and phase.

It's all coded by myself. I used mathematical functions to create this piece of art. And no AI.

#27 Lifeform.

Here's an alternative crreation for the prompt of the 27th where I made the flying bee.

It's a stochastic L-system which I overlayed multiple times to get this kind-of-realistic look. L-systems are so awesome. I will create some with 3 dimensions and leaves and blossoms. Maybe I try to implement them in Blender for a generative grass, wood or something else in nature.

Now the Genuary is over and I plan to develop a challenge for March. If you want to brainstorm about such a challenge just write me.

For GLSL there is no ready-to-go noise function, so I adapted the one from the well-known "Book of Shaders" and combined it with the rectangle grid but for each rectangle a seperate mapping. And it is definitely a base I will work on. Improving GLSL Shader language is also important for game development, for water shaders, sky. But you know all that already.

When I made the first monthly challenges I was stressed and focus on good results. But as soon as I lifted fun to the top leader I learned much more and developed during every challenge. #29 Genetic evolution and mutation.

What you see in four steps is the cell division created with a metaball algorithm. You should know that my two favorites in generative art are metaballs and noise. And they are both similar because the results look like organic fluid or very soft materials.

Also, I thought to try these 4 quadrants instead of an animation because often you do not have time to watch a whole animation. But both have their existence.

#17 Wallpaper group.

With a triangular pattern the result was not as I expected, so I switched to this one and it's simple but for me at least much nicer.

Did you ever use a wallpaper with a pattern on your walls?

Me, I used strong saturated colors in a apartment many years ago and it was inspiring and also interesting that people prefered being in the rooms with warmer colors including myself. And yes, while I'm writing this line, I think of coloring the walls again, even though they are special currently.

#25 Organic Geometry.

Just one word: Shrink wrap. Oh, that's two words. I know it as a modifier in #blender3d but here I created it myself in 2D. I didn't want to code Metaballs (I did for another prompt that isn't posted yet), so I created random circles and a huge circle around that gets smaller and smaller, and the parts getting in contact with the inner circles stays at their place while the others drift more to the center.

Too complicated? Just look at it. I like the result and the forms the algorithm produced.

After looking at some examples I decided I have to use color this time. And I created a vintage palette and transformed one of the examples in my own creation. Afterwards I thought about making the upper and right edges little reflective to give it a 3D look but that's an extension for another time.

#26 Recursive Grid.

After playing around with recursive shapes I chose the triangle. One black, one transparent building a rectangle together.
Not as awesome as most of the other creations for this prompt but I call it done.

Minimalistic. For this prompt I also rendered about 10 creations. Big spirals, small, narrow and wide, combinations with multople ones. I chose this simple one looking like the home of a snail.

Fur? Hair? Almost. I chose a vector flow field which is a grid of vectors with an angle from a perlin noise value.
But I kept the stroke weight I had for all the Genuary prompts this year. After playing around with about 3-5 variables this was my favorite.

#10 Polar coordinates.

Experimenting with noise and polar coordinates, I picked circles out of the noise spectrum and used them for the radius variation. Then adding mulptiple circles getting more noisy to the outside.
Looks like an icon for a tree cut in halves.

Perlin noise is my favorite ingredient for organic creations.

#09 Crazy automaton. Cellular automata with crazy rules.

Starting with game of life I experimented but with the known cells it doesn't looked like art. So I used an approach to connect the active/living cells by little lines. And this resulted in the shown animation.
