  2. @thomasadam

Hey, I discovered an artifact when running xteddy(1) on cwm(1) on OpenBSD with picom(1):

It gets a funny frame on bright backgrounds.

Sorry, I don't have a screenshot right now.

    Are you aware of this?

EDIT: Oh, I somehow thought you were the maintainer!

  3. Manuals for Sun software / SPARC desktop systems for sale in Norway. I'm not the one selling, just browsing the marketplace.

  4. - What?! I exclaimed to myself when the 1st post in the glorious newsletter from Vermaden was this:

"Porting FreeBSD to Run on PinePhone Pro."
    codeberg.org/Honeyguide/freebs

Years ago a port was began for OpenBSD, but it stalled. Check out the super blog: exoticsilicon.com (research.exoticsilicon.com/ser)

  5. @tilton Every time I catch someone mention X11 and Wayland WITHOUT mentioning Arcan as a 3rd option I do:
Arcan is the 3rd option! arcan-fe.com/about Better than the other two in many ways.

  6. "Here we continue the series of posts on the development of a command-line shell which defies terminal emulation by using the display server API locally and a purpose built network protocol remotely."

My favorite answer to the X vs Wayland debacle is ARCAN. Though I run X11 because I love it.

  7. @Syphilia Takk!

  9. Why emulate terminals when you don't have to anymore?
The power of -fe - no need for or ! The debate is futile 😜
    This project is awesome! arcan-fe.com/2024/08/05/cat9-m

  10. research.exoticsilicon.com/art

I love this site and it's projects and guides. Thanks to undeadly.org and @pitrh for sharing!

  11. Nice to air __different perspectives__ on things and not immediately join the **pitchfork 'n torches** mobs.
    Found on Telegram:

  12. @tedu
For some reason I ended up with elinks as my fav txt-browser. Don't know if the same problems occur there.

With a server Browsh rules the modern world. Try ssh'ing into brow.sh for a test ride!

  13. @Neirac

ghostbsd.org, nomadBSD and the newest candidate: helloSystem! hellosystem.github.io/docs/

  14. Today I discovered that eLinks (text web browser) is active again!
(See previous posts for edbrowse(1) - the name should reveal it's interface🤓.)

  15. @sum
    :)
Don't need no raw nCurse on a vhIM or any emacs in the back.
When granddadd-Eee-Dee's got me covered, line by line, cooked.

  16. Some amazing things happened tonight:
I finally made my IBM T42 come alive!
AND I finally got a BSD running on a machine from hard drive!
OpenBSD is installed consuming 58M of RAM as ~~we speak~~ I write!
NetBSD and Linux would not even start on this machine.
A very proud man is going to bed right now - with great discoveries ahead ^^)

Default FVWM is the most retro looking WM I've seen in decades :)

  17. @hannusiivonen
    Wait!
    I just rediscovered WordGrinder!
    Distractionfree writing made by writer!
    `roff, MD` and HTML I think.

  18. Found the 'ol jwc.org site again thanx to a 'custom URL shortcut' in Firefox Klar from F-Droid.
Check out the still beautiful site

"The distinguishing factors are the sizes of the pieces.
If you turn a face 90 degrees from start, it looks off kilter.
Some pieces are longer, wider, taller, than others.
It only makes a cube when solved, otherwise it looks like a jumble of
    plastic rectangles stuck together.
The sighted person has almost no advantage here.
And there's nothing to wear off, so I can play with it for years to
    come.
    It's COOL!

Feel free to repost this in other forums.

  20. @SDF
    Dear SDF,

For several years I've been wanting to hook up to the SDF Machine, but still no go.
I'm unfortunately mostly on an evil Android device and just installed to connect to your helpdesk. Unfortunately I can't connect there either.

    Server: irc.sdf.org
    Port: 6697
    SSL/TLS: √
    Auth. mode: CertFP¹
    Username: @neb

¹Maybe I should use Username+password? Recovery of that is my nr. 1 question, though.

  21. @amolith @jex Yes, nobody needs YouTube directly anymore! And with projects like and we can ditch YT all together!!

  22. @InvaderXan
YouTube videos that is basically an image w/ music on top is a GRAVE WASTE OF BANDWITH.
    And YouTube=evil anyway.

    'Gooder' videostreaming alternatives/frontends:

    -dl (CLI)
    etc.

  23. @JacobNeplokh also if you change the 'you' of any valid youtube-video URL to 'hook' you find yet another!
If somebody tries to utube me, I immediately hook it!
Also download buttons, but not directly.

  24. @galaxis
For a moment you thought you were the author - which has a great podcast on open source security called:

  25. CW: re: Nazis on the Fediverse

  26. 4/3 :picklerick:
It was on the mailing list for edbrowse(1) - a line/text-based web browser. Brilliant fit for scripting web-stuff. Also brilliant if you are visually impaired. It has it's own Javascript engine too.

  27. Finally time to boast post about a bday gift I bought myself:

"Ed Mastery" by @mwlucas - a masterpiece for those of us too lazy to learn only reading the source and man(1).

    Really enjoying my Friday night!
Working on my ed(1) in the sh(1)!

  28. I just installed a new fork of .
    This comes straight from Telegram:

"Yalp Store is no longer being maintained. Should I switch to Yalp Store community fork or Aurora Store?

Original Yalp Store hasn’t been updated in over 6 months and it’s sole developer seems to be actively developing on a different project.

So the question is, which AppStore should I go with? Both are on F-Droid & Linked Below.

  29. For me all.content in NewPipe is unavailable.
    Not so in Invidio.us.
    How about you?
I'm using latest version from F-Droid.

  30. I used to scorn tech solutions to energy issues.
    invidio.us/JKXnQnaiqI8
Good ideas to harness energy efficiently and non-polluting.

  31. Hey, I think Unix just turned 50!
    Happy anniversary💥⌨💨
    - And thanx to SDF for making antique and old historical version available via browser!
    unix50.org/
(Though not accesible through elinks. At least not on Alpine Linux via Termux on Android.)

  32. New Haiku-release!
    haiku-os.org/get-haiku/release
Tons of work done these last six years.
It's WebKit even supports Gopher now ^^)

  33. BTW:
`vi(1)` also has an __"ex-mode"__ which is sort of a builtin `ed(1)`.

I study and practice `ed(1)` to be hip, to learn `vi(1)`'s `ex` and __REGEX__-es.

Learning `ed(1)` is like learning Latin/Old Greek because it's ancient and "used everywhere" - both availability (even when all else fails) and that it's influence can be felt "everywhere".
Another bonus will be the ability to run `edbrowse(1)` efficiently!
@mwlucas has a great book called "ED MASTERY".
