  1. #waypipe on #postmarketOS is the best solution I've ever used for running applications on my desktop at home on my phone while I'm away. It's seamless and apps show up natively alongside local apps with proper touchscreen control, mouse control (via #TouchpadEmulator), #squeekboard OSK, and scaling. I used to think ssh -X was the only thing I missed about X11, but after trying waypipe no way. X11 is dead. I don't miss it at all.

  6. Reinstalled #ArchLinux on my #ROGAlly Z1 Extreme, dual booted with Windows 11. KDE is a nice interface but is pretty awful to use with only a touchscreen so I installed #phosh with my custom #squeekboard layouts and #TouchpadEmulator. This could be the best UI for "desktop mode" on touchscreen gaming handhelds if it handled fullscreen games (especially with UI scaling above 100%) better and supported Variable Refresh Rate. It is so nice for everything besides gaming.

  11. phosh 0.43.1 is out 🚀📱🎅 :

This is a small bug fix release addressing two important issues in and that shouldn't wait 'til 0.44.0.

Check out the release notes at phosh.mobi/releases/rel-0.43.1/.

🙏 to everyone who contributed to this release.

  12. Yay! #phosh #squeekboard added the Shift modifier in the latest release! I updated my custom layout to add a "Sft" button that applies the Shift modifier and now I can Shift+Alt multiline select in #vscode!

    #postmarketOS #LinuxMobile #mobilelinux

  13. New #phosh #squeekboard landed in #postmarketOS! Handles fractional scaling significantly better now! The keyboard still gets smaller, but it stretches to fill the available space rather than wasting space with black bars and making the keys even smaller. I hope that fractional scaling eventually will not impact keyboard height at all, but this is already a huge usability upgrade.

    This is at 150% scale:

  14. got an improved shift modifier, better fills empty space in the panel and adds Unicode 16.0 emojis ➕ more consistency fixes in layouts

  15. Mobile Settings now allows to configure the size of and the completer used in phosh-osk-stub (fosstodon.org/@[email protected]/)

  16. I'm so happy that @phosh #squeekboard works with Electron/Chromium apps now! Editing code on #VSCode on my #postmarketOS #OnePlus 6T! I'm working on improving my Touchpad Emulator app, which allows for using the touchscreen as a mouse and makes working with desktop applications on mobile a lot easier.

  17. Raspberry Pi OS improves touchscreen support and now uses Wayland by default

Raspberry Pi OS is a Debian-based GNU/Linux distribution that’s developed by the Raspberry Pi team and designed to run on the company’s single-board computers. The latest version brings a big change that causal users might not even notice: it uses the labwc Wayland compositor by default on all Raspberry Pi models rather than the wayfire compositor or X Window system.

  20. phosh 0.42.1 is out 🚀📱:

This is a bug fix release addressing important issues in and that shouldn't wait 'til 0.43.0. Check out the release notes at phosh.mobi/releases/rel-0.42.1/. It also adds the release of phosh-osk-data which was a bit late for 0.42.0.

  22. team GO!

I assembled a team to continue work I started for with , and .

We're going to finish the mobile side of screen-based input, and also try to properly bring traditional input methods (like for Chinese) to Wayland.

Thanks @nlnet for providing the motivation.

    Watch this account!

  23. and can indeed work well with :)

My patch fixes the focus problem, and now events go all like they should.

Let's see what the upstream thinks about this.

Thanks @nlnet @NGIZero for motivating me to do this work :)

  24. compositor is running :)

But not very well. The first letter goes through, and that's it.
This is where I come in.

  29. If you are not happy with your on-screen-keyboard () on Mobian, you might want to try out -osk-stub which is @agx's toy keyboard. I like the layout a lot, apparently it even features local text prediction (have not tried that yet).
Remember, it is a toy, so hold back on your support requests.

    Installation TL;DR: apt install phosh-osk-stub && update-alternatives --config Phosh-OSK

P.S. The screenshot is using PureOS rather than Mobian, but it is available there just as well

  30. Has someone configured to have a paste and possibly also a copy button? I mostly switched to Foot for my terminal but keybinds max out at two keys so I still need Console whenever I have to paste stuff and copying isn't possible at all yet but also slightly less important.

  31. installed Arch onto the Pinephone. It does feel smoother than Manjaro did. I have noticed 2 of the same bugs tho.
*1 - sometimes when trying to type a capital "C" using the soft keyboard it will register a backspace.
    *2 - random lockup/freezing that needs a hard reboot.
both these problems were present on Manjaro & I believe I had the keyboard issue on pmOS also.
Need to test if my mic works for calls now.

  32. I'm running the unstable branch of @ManjaroARM on my #pinephone and have noticed a bug with #squeekboard. Sometimes when typing an uppercase "C" it will instead enter a backspace. This also has happened on the stable branch as well. Switching the input method to "Terminal" works as a quick fix. Has anybody else noticed this issue? Seems to happen randomly.
  33. The 77th edition of my weekly collection of news about (@PINE64 , , @purism and such), , is out!
