  1. anyone know what happened to ? seems like the version is stuck on 2023

  2. Just verified the current #wmlive version for arm64 boots just fine on a #PinebookPro, thanks to #towboot enabling UEFI booting. This also includes the graphical Debian installer, so no more fiddling with the serial console.

  3. This thread will be about my experiments with my new #pinePhonePro.
I got it yesterday and had a few minor hurdles out of the gate. I followed instructions on the wiki but couldn't get it to boot into
#sailfishOS. I don't remember what I did differently but after a few attempts it booted fine. I immediately wanted to replace sailfish but first checked that sms and calls worked fine and it did (though took a while to receive the first call).
    I flashed
#postmarketOS with #PlasmaMobile to an sd card and tried booting from it but quickly realised I had missed a step :shinx_facepalm:. The wiki said I had to install #towboot to the SPI so I did that. After following the instructions properly this time I installed the OS successfully. I found Plasma extremely sluggish and unresponsive so quickly moved on. The next OS I flashed was postmarketOS again but this time with #sxmo and I immediately fell in love with the interface.
After that I went to sleep as it had been a long day and was getting late. This morning I flashed postmarketos with sxmo to the eMMC and will be tinkering with it today. Ill update this post with comments about my progress.

  4. Something is very wrong with 's documentation. Broken links, a moved website, always talk about flashing a certain 'mmcboot.installer.img' to an SD card, but WHERE for the love of god can one find this piece of bytes?? 😂

Certainly not in the releases page on GitHub or within the pinephone (non-pro) tarballs.

Kind of annoying because apparently :nixos: mobile- refuses to boot with the default Braveheart bootloader or something...

  6. @stu I"ve only used #PinePhone(Pro)'s but I imagine the process is basically the same.

    Extract. (I use Ark )
Write image to sdcard ( I use Balena Etcher )
Insert SD card and hold volume down button to boot from that rather than internal storage.
    Follow onscreen prompts.

PS, I think @postmarketOS also requires you install #TowBoot first? It's an extra step but not hard. SImilar to what's above. Website is TowBoot.org iirc.

  7. @ahoneybun #manjaro Gnome, with a custom Mutter/Gnome-Shell build, notably including gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/

I usually prefer #Fedora but unfortunately the install fails on the #PinebookPro. I guess it doesn't play nice with #towboot for some reason.

  8. CW: tech un-grumble

On the plus side, #TowBoot is damn amazing. #Postmarketos mistakenly created an ext4 root partition on my PinePhone and I could fix it by booting into USB block storage mode and running btrfs convert on it like I would with a pendrive. Rebooted the phone and it worked on first try.
So, shoutout to the TowBoot devs. (And also pmOS, despite that bug, it's heccin great.)

  9. Anybody have any tips on how to #flash a new OS onto a #PinePhone Pro Explorer’s Edition using #TowBoot from a Windows PC?

The phone is mounted to Drive I: which is “BOOT_MNJRO” with the following files:

  10. Trying to install gives me this error!

  11. We are currently working on an image for #efi based devices, where its possible to have multiple kernels installed at the same time!

Picture is from a @PINE64 #pinebookpro with #towboot on SPI.

  12. YES!!!! I'm thrilled (ok, easily so...) to find that there's already an issue and possibly work to fix the #PinePhonePro boot-loop problem in #TowBoot, by making it wait for a minimum battery level before booting.

Currently if the battery runs flat, there often isn't enough power to boot the OS, so it constantly shuts down and restarts because the USB cord is plugged in, leading to an infinite boot loop.

I theorized a fix, but others were already ahead of me:

  13. @migratory @jawsh

OMG @yoshi I just tried this and this is a game changer! I can actually charge my battery without another #pinephone! It's simple, too. Remove USB cable, battery and SDcard. Plug battery in again. Hold RE while reinserting cable.

I do wish though, that #TowBoot, would just wait until the battery was charged enough to safely boot the OS before attempting to do so. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but it seems that this would fix this whole mess in a user-transparent way.

  14. Finally managed to install on my
Turns out I had to delete my previous install from spi before trying to install tow-boot from an SD card: github.com/Tow-Boot/Tow-Boot/i

  15. wow, just installed #towboot on my #pinephone. attitude like a bios and also able to turn a supported device directly into a big usb-stick tow-boot.org/ thanks samuel. greets to the birdsite ;)

  16. @martijnbraam Huh? On your video, before you remove the SD card, TowBoot boots to the SD card first.

On mine, it seems to ignore the SD card (Manjaro) and go straight to the internal OS (Mobian).

Could this be because of the different OS's installed? I know PostmarketOS has been doing more with TowBoot, so I'm wondering if it's more stable with it than say Manjaro on my SD card... 🤔

  17. @linmob i can't wait to install on my . my only sd card is currently in use by my /#archlinuxarm development image, but honestly i'll probably just upload any changes i have made to git and reflash it after installing tow-boot.
