  6. Nice work David! Always 😎 to see #phosh's docked mode put into use. There'll be some more improvements coming for that with 0.55.

  7. We've just tagged and relesed phoc 0.55~alpha1 🥳. This is basically 0.54.0 but using the recently released #wlroots 0.20.0 instead of 0.19.3. Please give it a try!

    #phosh #LinuxMobile

  8. The mobile settings application now ships a library with some common widgets for reuse.

There's also a command line option now to disable all built-in panels. This helps other desktop environments like #sxmo when using the conf-tweaks backend so users don't see any settings that don't apply (by @newbyte ).

  9. The Wayland compositor #phoc saw some workspace related improvements but the major changes affect the handling of override-redirect windows in #X11 applications. This allows X11 applications like #emacs, #ardour, etc. to work better. We also updated to #wlroots 0.19.3.

    4/x.

  10. phosh 0.54.0 is out 🚀📱:

There's 🐛 fixes, improvements and some new features this time.

Check out the full release notes at https://phosh.mobi/releases/rel-0.54.0/ for details or see 👇 for a short 🧵

  11. Another #cellbroadcast test that went smoothly on #phosh (and the receive wasn't even aware that this one was scheduled🙃):

    #LinuxMobile

  12. @dawndrums https://dev.phosh.mobi/docs/development/stack/ is pretty terse and doesn't list everything but by following the links you should get an overview. https://phosh.mobi/posts/ should be able to fill in some other gaps regarding e.g. #cellbroadcast or emergency calls.

  13. Tip: if your phone doesn't have a notification LED, it is broken or not yet supported by the kernel you can use the camera flash 📸 :

  14. This will also help #LinuxMobile. There are rumors that this might get integrated into #stevia 🎹 (as you might have heard at our last community get together):

  15. Looking forward to work with #modemmanager upstream on improving dual SIM support in our #LinuxMobile stack: https://nlnet.nl/project/Linux-MultiSIM/ .

Thanks a lot to @NGIZero for supporting this!

    #phosh #gnome

  16. We just landed initial support for Chinese (via #pinyin) and Japanese (via #anthy / romaji) in #Phosh's on screen keyboard #stevia using #uim 🥳

As our current maintainers don't speak / write these languages we appreciate testing feedback and people joining development so we can improve things further in this important area.

    #LinuxMobile

  17. Didn't make it to #FOSDEM? @devrtz 's talk about #Phosh's recent developments is available online: https://video.fosdem.org/2026/ub4132/XHPZND-phosh-2026.av1.webm

The talks was presented using a phone running #phosh (beamer connected via usb-c) and #pdfpc .

    #LinuxMobile

  18. There were improvements in the worskpace and keysym handling (by @tpikonen ), we allow fullscreen windows to remain fullscreen when they lose focus (which helps games) and fixed some several other issues.

    #phoc

    7/x

  19. #phoc gained support for the xx-cutouts-v1 Wayland protocol to inform clients about display cutouts and notches. Below screenshots shoes our video player #livi using that information to keep the video out of the cutout area:

    6/x

  20. In other on screen keyboard (#stevia) news: We added new #presage completion dictionaries for Bulgarian, French, Serbian and Turkish:

    5/x

  21. The #polkit prompt now shows more user data (by @arunmani ) like the users name and avator (or initials):

    3/x

  22. The auto brightness added in 0.51 saw some improvements. We now remember a user set offset across reboots and also compensate for night light automatically (as contrast is reduced under red shift at low brightness for the human 👁️).

We also fixed several bugs in volume control selection related to new #pipewire and #wireplumber versions.

There's a bunch of other improvements like "Settings" button in the caffeine quick settings status page that takes you right to the plugin config. Most of the work for this happened in mobile settings and we'll reuse that for other plugins too.

    2/x

  23. phosh 0.53.0 is out 🚀📱:

There's plenty of 🐛 fixes, improvements and refinements of existing features this time.

Check out the full release notes at https://phosh.mobi/releases/rel-0.53.0/ for details or see 👇 for a short 🧵

🙏 to everyone who contributed to this release.

    #phosh #Librem5 #PinePhone #gtk #wlroots #gnome #linux #mobile #LinuxMobile

  24. #feedbackd (together with the device themes and #rust bindings) moved to https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/feedbackd/ . Many thanks to the fdo maintainers for having us!

    #phosh #LinuxMobile

  25. We've just merged some code to automatically scale up the on screen keyboard in landscape on larger screens like tablets also allowing it to use more horizontal space.

While at that we also added the necessary bits to scale up font and icons on the keyboard's keys accordingly which also helps on phones when going to higher resolutions.

There's still some low hanging improvements like scaling down in landscape on phones or improving the touch area for the shortcuts and completion bars. Let us know if you want to help with that!

    #Phosh #LinuxMobile #OSK #stevia

  26. One thing bothering us when playing videos with our little, mobile friendly video player #livi was that playing from video sites like #peeretube or #youtube showed very little information in #phosh's media player widget. This is now fixed on Livi's main branch where it fetches the necessary bits from #ytdlp to display a thumbnail and artist information making it a better companion to the pipeline app too.
We've improved a bunch of other things like faster seeking as well.

    #LinuxMobile #gstreamer

  27. From the photo it looks like #phosh is under test there too, awesome and congrats to this big step in driving test automation forward!

    https://social.treehouse.systems/@postmarketOS/115934087634798534

    #phoshspotting

  28. #gmobile can now handle different corner radii of displays and phoc already,
renders them correctly. We don't pick up that information in the shell yet though.

    5/x

  29. On the on screen keyboard side we fixed two long standing issues:

    • the on screen keyboard "sometimes" unfolded with a delay, this is now fixed in stevia.
    • When the user submitted preedit it could show up in the next text input e.g. in #Chatty or Flare. This is now fixed in #phoc.

    4/x

  30. phosh 0.52.0 is out 🚀📱:

There's some important 🐛 fixes and some user visible improvements - maybe a bit less than usual as the end of the year got a bit busy and we decided to rather not rush things in.

Check out the full release notes at https://phosh.mobi/releases/rel-0.52.0/ for details or see 👇 for a short 🧵

  31. New year, new release candidate!

We've tagged #Phosh 0.52~rc1 together with #feedbackd 0.8.8, gmobile #0.6.0 and #pfs 0.0.6 . pfs now ships a simple example file selector app, excuse the logo but we were thinking about a mobile file cabinet:

    Happy 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣ everyone!

  32. phosh 0.51.0 is out 🚀📱:

Another 6️⃣ weeks have passed and we have some new features, quality of life improvements, and 🐛 fixes. Check out the full release notes at https://phosh.mobi/releases/rel-0.51.0/ for details or see 👇 for a short 🧵

  33. #feedbackd now ships a media role configuration to separate audio volumes but it is not installed by default yet as this will need #wireplumber 0.5.13 to work properly. You can try it out by building feedbackd with the -Dmedia-roles=true option. Feedback appreciated (pun intended 🙃).

feedbackd-device-themes improves support for the Google Pixel 3A XL
and gmobile adds support for the #Fairphone 6.

  34. Dear distro maintainers and i build my own stuff people:

In case you want to check out 0.51 release upfront: we've tagged the first release candidates (0.51~rc1) of #phosh and related components 🎉 📱 .

    Release is planned 2025-11-16.

    We've also tagged the companion releases for #feedbackd 0.8.7, feedbackd-device-themes 0.8.7 and gmobile 0.5.0.

    #LinuxMobile

  35. With some #wireplumber changes landing we're a big step closer to enabling separate volume controls for things like media, alerts, alarms, etc. in #Phosh. Here's a short overview on the current state: https://phosh.mobi/posts/role-based-routing/

    #LinuxMobile

  36. phosh 0.50.1 is out 🚀📱:

This is just a small point release update over 0.50.0 to fix some critical 🐛. Check out the full release notes at https://phosh.mobi/releases/rel-0.50.1 for details.

🙏 to everyone who contributed to this release.

  37. #Phosh and Phoc had nightlight support since ages but the only phone with out of the box gamma LUT support that could make use of it so far was the #PinePhone.

Thanks to @fizzo 's kernel work it works on Qualcomm based phones too now and makes the (optional) night light quick toggle useful on way more devices and looking at the bright AMOLED displays at night much more pleasant.

Demo below is on a #SHIFT6mq.
