  1. If I'm following this #ModemManager thing correctly, we shouldn't use the allow-roaming boolean on simple connect anymore, but the more precise roaming-allowance property at the bearer level. Except…

    - mmcli's --create-bearer doesn't support it, and reads it from the 3GPP profile instead;
    - mmcli's 3GPP profile manager doesn't support it either, so you can't add it to a profile anyway.

Trying over D-Bus directly is my next step, but everything I've seen so far is a little concerning…

  3. My ThinkPad T14s shipped with an Intel XMM7560 LTE modem locked behind a Lenovo unlock blob. I replaced it with a ~100-line bash script that does the exact same handshake - and explains, in plain shell, what the "unlock" really is: a SHA-256 over a 4-byte constant. No magic, no blob.

Full credit to Floris Stoica-Marcu for the script.

  5. Looking forward to work with #modemmanager upstream on improving dual SIM support in our #LinuxMobile stack: https://nlnet.nl/project/Linux-MultiSIM/ .

Thanks a lot to @NGIZero for supporting this!

  9. There were successful tests of #Cellbroadcast at Bundesweiter #Warntag 2025 on @postmarketOS (https://fosstodon.org/@z3ntu/115184859174052676) (by @z3ntu) and on @mobian (https://ruhr.social/@agx/115184872311438441) (by @agx) on three different 📱models (with and without Qualcomm SoCs) with #Phosh 0.49. 🎉

For things to work out of the box: On Qualcomm SoCs you need at least #ModemManager 1.25.1 , Debian/Mobian waits for cellbroadcastd to enter the archive

  11. #Phosh's #MobileSetting app has a new panel to configure #CellBroadcast categories. This requires a recent #ModemManager and mobile-broadband-provider-info database:

With this change merged in , now if you enable the wakeup for modem device (wake phone from suspend when Call/SMS comes), it'll not wakeup for unsolicited events that are not relevant to user experience.

Thanks to biemster for providing initial patchset!

I have been running this + bunch of other WIP patches (tease tease 😏) on my @postmarketOS @plasmamobile device from last 2 weeks without much of an issue.

Also Thanks @NGIZero for supporting work on this!

  17. reported my #OpenWrt + #ModemManager problem at github.com/openwrt/packages/is

If you know OpenWrt and/or ModemManager and have time to look into it I'd be happy. 😉 Testing if ModemManager is working for you is also helpful.

  18. damn .. I found a SegFault in #ModemManager on #OpenWrt 24.10.0-rc2. It's working in 23.05.5.

Who has time to help debug this?

  19. @agx The initial implementation for just landed. Thanks to the MM maintainers for the review and @NGIZero for supporting this project.

bits (and polishing the MM side) will follow soon.

  21. GNOME's Airplane Mode does not signal to ModemManager to disable the modem, or at least doesn't do it correctly. Wonderful...

  22. #Crimson is the next version of #PureOS, the #Linux distribution that comes with the #Librem5 #phone. @purism provided a month ago the totally optional possibility to support the PureOS development financially.

Here is a report regarding the PureOS Crimson development in July 2024.

Amongst other things a #ModemManager fix was upstreamed, which will benefit all devices with similar modems.

  23. It would be nice if in 2024, suspending your laptop equipped with an LTE modem, would allow said modem to show up in the system after resume.

Eh, anyone here knows about how to fix this for #modemmanager ?

  24. Do you have an old #PinePhone lying in the cupboard?

Dev versions of #ModemManager now support #GPS without a SIM card. Consumers of the MM API need some changes for this, so I submitted pull requests to #Geoclue (gitlab.freedesktop.org/geoclue), gnss-share (gitlab.com/postmarketOS/gnss-s), and my own simple #GNSS app Satellite (codeberg.org/tpikonen/satellit) (all 3 in different languages).

Soon it will be possible to use SIMless mobile phones for things like navigation and fitness tracking.
