My ThinkPad T14s shipped with an Intel XMM7560 LTE modem locked behind a Lenovo unlock blob. I replaced it with a ~100-line bash script that does the exact same handshake - and explains, in plain shell, what the "unlock" really is: a SHA-256 over a 4-byte constant. No magic, no blob.
Full credit to Floris Stoica-Marcu for the script.

Looking forward to work with #modemmanager upstream on improving dual SIM support in our #LinuxMobile stack: https://nlnet.nl/project/Linux-MultiSIM/ .
Thanks a lot to @NGIZero for supporting this!

#ModemManager ya tiene para recibir alertas instituciones por catástrofes o movidas de esas. Usado en portátiles con conexión por celular y móviles.

There were successful tests of #Cellbroadcast at Bundesweiter #Warntag 2025 on @postmarketOS (https://fosstodon.org/@z3ntu/115184859174052676) (by @z3ntu) and on @mobian (https://ruhr.social/@agx/115184872311438441) (by @agx) on three different 📱models (with and without Qualcomm SoCs) with #Phosh 0.49. 🎉
For things to work out of the box: On Qualcomm SoCs you need at least #ModemManager 1.25.1 , Debian/Mobian waits for cellbroadcastd to enter the archive

#Phosh's #MobileSetting app has a new panel to configure #CellBroadcast categories. This requires a recent #ModemManager and mobile-broadband-provider-info database:

With this change merged in #ModemManager, now if you enable the wakeup for modem device (wake phone from suspend when Call/SMS comes), it'll not wakeup for unsolicited events that are not relevant to user experience.
Thanks to biemster for providing initial patchset!
I have been running this + bunch of other WIP patches (tease tease 😏) on my @postmarketOS @plasmamobile device from last 2 weeks without much of an issue.
Also Thanks @NGIZero for supporting work on this!

As part of or work on #Cellbroadcast we've documented our current test setup: https://codeberg.org/Phosh/gsm-cell-testing using #osmocom for the mobile network parts and #ansible for deploying #ModemManager on the devices, performing the tests and checking the results.
Thanks to @NGIZero for supporting our work on this.

And an issue for the #ModemManager crash itself: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/ModemManager/-/issues/949

reported my #OpenWrt + #ModemManager problem at https://github.com/openwrt/packages/issues/25531
If you know OpenWrt and/or ModemManager and have time to look into it I'd be happy. 😉 Testing if ModemManager is working for you is also helpful.

damn .. I found a SegFault in #ModemManager on #OpenWrt 24.10.0-rc2. It's working in 23.05.5.
Who has time to help debug this?

@agx The initial #Cellbroadcast implementation for #ModemManager just landed. Thanks to the MM maintainers for the review and @NGIZero for supporting this project.
#phosh bits (and polishing the MM side) will follow soon.
-
Do you have an old #PinePhone lying in the cupboard?
Dev versions of #ModemManager now support #GPS without a SIM card. Consumers of the MM API need some changes for this, so I submitted pull requests to #Geoclue (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/geoclue/geoclue/-/merge_requests/173), gnss-share (https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/gnss-share/-/merge_requests/15), and my own simple #GNSS app Satellite (https://codeberg.org/tpikonen/satellite/releases) (all 3 in different languages).
Soon it will be possible to use SIMless mobile phones for things like navigation and fitness tracking.

Not kidding, that's the setup @martijnbraam used to process #postmarketOSpodcast E09! 😎
This time we have:
* @PINE64 #PineBookPro and #RockPro64 leveled up into the community category
* geeking out on #ModemManager call/SMS handling in combination with the #PinePhone modem
* how #Phosh customizations are implemented in postmarketos-tweaks
* our principleshttps://cast.postmarketos.org/episode/09-PBP-RP64-ModemManager-Phosh-Principles/
