Wow! After delving into IPSec strongSwan rekeying, I now know that the initial 'data key' (Child SA) is like a quick handshake with no fancy secret exchange (PFS) (RTFM! [1]). However, for rekeys, it's full secret agent handshake mode! Writing the GitHub bug report, which turned out not to be a bug, helped me to understand my situation better. [2] Finally migrated to the new IPSEC connection setup in OPNsense and updated my blog post. [3]
(Now I expect to get answers, aka 'Use WireGuard!')

Zur Info an #threema Nutzer:
Wird ein Desktop Client mit der App verknüpft, scheint kein #pfs mehr zu funktionieren. Eine entsprechende Meldung tauchte in meinen aktiven Chats auf. Allerdings ohne Hinweis auf die Ursache.
Nach dem entfernen des verknüpften Geräts war es wieder aktiv.Das ist bei @threemaapp nicht dokumentiert (oder ich habe es nur nicht gefunden).

🔝 Wie ich so eben erfahren habe, hat der #Session #Messenger keine Perfect Forward Secrecy (#PFS) und deswegen auch keine glaubhafte Abstreitbarkeit, falls es mal geknackt zB vor Gericht landet.
Deren #Begründung ist lächerlich und nicht wahr. Die beruft sich darauf, dass in der Vergangenheit vor Gerichte dies nicht nützte. Nicht jedes #Gericht ist das selbe und deswegen absolut kein Argument.
Einen weiteren Grund (siehe Thread) weshalb Session absolut nicht zu empfehlen ist!

Ich bin sicher nicht der erste und letzte der sich für das #Fediverse "Dirketnachrichten" wünscht die gleichzeitig #E2E und Perfect Forward Secrecy (#PFS) kann.
Vermutlich müsste man dazu das Protokoll (AP) erweitern. Und eine gelingende Implementierung in divers. Projekte ob das gelingt, dass steht wiederum auf einen weiteren Blatt.

1. First Store where I bought a TTRPG: Not counting grabbing a few used D&D books from garage sales… Would have to be *Game Knight* in Winnipeg. I started attending #PFS Pathfinder Society there as a social thing and splurged on the then-giant Core Rulebook. That was a fun year of making friends and rolling dice.
