Other projects I use every day:
#Matrix spec & clients like #FluffyChat and #nheko
#Bitwarden & #Vaultwarden password manager
#Neovim text editor
#clangd LSPI'd love to encourage these projects to jump ship, and I celebrate those that do. I am much more likely to provide quality contributions if you host on your own forge, or a free one, and I am sure I'm not alone in this.
GitHub is hostile to FOSS and, despite giving away lots of free-of-cost stuff I believe ultimately hurts us.

#matrix app options on #kde atm kinda sucks. #element is the best, but it's now among a number of apps that don't (properly) support kde wallet/#kwallet so that's a no for a while now, which is a shame cos it's worked fine before. #nheko has been recommended, and it's pretty nice despite some rough edges, but it is honestly not that hard to come across several bugs that make it unusable. kde's own matrix app (forgot the name #neochat) is pretty rough on the edges too, a bit basic looking, but def a lot less buggy than nheko - it has some bugs of its own tho like 'quote' messages not working properly, at least when the quoted/replied message has a photo (it shows a thumbnail of the correct image, but opening it up shows a totally diff pic - for instance). all in all, ur best option is element's web app, but for a chat app u wish to use daily for a lot, it's kinda jank to always be looking for ur browser window/tab. the element app on other platforms like #ios and #macos just works tho so dats a fallback, if u use those.

- there is no button in #firefoxmobile that allows me to remove all saved passwords. Why? There should be a dialog overtly asking whether it should do so when logging out of sync!
- It is not possible to log out of a matrix session in #nheko when offline.#security

FYI: A ton of third party #Matrix clients use the deprecated #libolm library for end-to-end encryption which suffers from multiple vulnerabilities:
https://soatok.blog/2024/08/14/security-issues-in-matrixs-olm-library/
libolm has now been deprecated: https://gitlab.matrix.org/matrix-org/olm/-/commit/6d4b5b07887821a95b144091c8497d09d377f985
These vulnerabilities appear to be known for quite a while now but are not a considered serious issues by authors of other Matrix clients. There is a "new" #Rust based crypto library called #vodezemac that has been used by the official #Element clients for about 2 years.
#FluffyChat and #Nheko are working on their clients:
https://github.com/krille-chan/fluffychat/issues/1258
https://github.com/Nheko-Reborn/nheko/issues/1786#issue-2441024627
Keep in mind that these clients are personal projects maintained by their authors in their free time. Element has a dedicated team for security aspects.Edit: This post has been edited to include some corrections

I can't answer the first, but for the latter, IRC is still wonderful, but if you want encryption, you might look into XMPP or Matrix, if you haven't tried those.
There are some pretty lightweight matrix servers you can self-host, if you're wanting to, and there are some great lightweight GUI clients like #FluffyChat, #NeoChat, and #Nheko, and at least one really good TUI client, #iamb.
But I honestly feel like #XMPP is the under-utilized option.

Bisher:
#Element und #Schildichat starten nicht.
#Fluffychat macht einen guten Job
#Fractal sieht auch gut aus
#Nheko macht auch bisher keine Probleme
#NeoChat will wieder nicht
#Syphon dagegen läuft 💪Das bedeutet NICHT dass die Clients sicher mit torsocks nutzbar sind - ich habe nur getestet ob sie sich starten lassen und ein einloggen möglich ist.

#Librem5 battery life on
#postmarketOS (5.9.16-librem5.2), day 5:Today I used it for all my social media again. I disconnected from the charger at 8:40 am, and the phone had shut down when I tried to use it after doing something the Librem 5 can't (taking a nap) at 4:50 pm. I used #Cawbird, #Tootle and #Giara, and #Nheko and also Firefox. The modem was on for the entire time, WiFi in the morning and after 2 pm.

#Librem5 battery life on
#postmarketOS (5.9.16-librem5.2), day 4:Today I used it for all my social media. I disconnected from the charger at 8:28 am, battery lasted until 4:46 pm (3%) when I plugged it in. I used #Cawbird, #Tootle and #Giara. Also I used #Nheko a bit during lunch break and checked my email in #Geary. The modem was on for the entire time, WiFi only from 1pm forward.

On my laptop, I run Ripcord connected to 5+ services (and 5 tabs opened). It is using 130MB of memory (res).
I sometimes connect to matrix servers, and tried nheko (0.7.2)(another Qt app). After checking 4 channels, it is using 180MB of memory (and over 33GB virt for some reason)... which is more than Riot opened in Firefox with less features. 😕
