Checking out the original DOS version of SimCity, version 1.07. Unlike SimCity Classic from 1993, this one still asks for its copy protection codes. The game is running in 16-color EGA mode with a resolution of 640 x 350 pixels. A true classic! 😎

i picked up the SimCity 2000 Power, Politics & Planning book several years ago - it's one of the best sources of information on the game. the interviews with former maxis staff are exceptional.

i only wish they had done the same for SimAnt.

rare lore: back in 2018 I came across a 500-page technical deep dive guidebook on SimCity 2000. In a process that took several years because they had so much backlog of manuals, magazines, etc, I sent it to Gaming Alexandria and they made a proper professional scan of it and uploaded it to archive.org. You can read it right now!

When I say technical... I mean there's a section on how to hex edit your save files.

Here are new and clean 300dpi scans of both manuals of the SimCity graphics sets: "Graphics Set 1 - Ancient Cities", as well as "Graphics Set 2 - Future Cities".
These are from 1990 and from the US versions of the expansions. These are also the same for both MS-DOS and Amiga... and probably Macintosh, too.

Oh, wow! There were so many different versions of SimCity graphics sets! Ancient or Future Cities… US, as well as European editions… Versions for Amiga 512K or 1 meg. The IBM-PC versions were also released on 3.5“ or 5.25“ diskettes. And, I guess, there were Macintosh versions, too. I personally only have these 4 boxes.
