I heard that Norris Public Schools put out an alert about a traffic tie-up on S. 68th Street due to an "unsanctioned senior prank". Apparently kids met in Hickman and rode their bikes the 4 miles to school. Bravo, kids. Bravo. #LNK #shareTheRoad

#WindsorME - Share The Road With Carol
September 28 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
"The ninth annual Share The Road With Carol is an all-ages commemorative ride planned for September 28, 2025 in Windsor and Whitefield, Maine to honor the memory of #CarolEckert, M.D. Carol was tragically killed as a result of a bike accident that occurred in Windsor on October 10, 2016. The ride has 12- and 27-mile options and begins and ends at the Windsor Town Office (523 Ridge Road). There is one rest stop on the 27-mile route.
"This is a great opportunity to explore the rolling hills along the border of Kennebec and Lincoln Counties. Biking was Carol’s passion. Whether you knew her or not, we invite everyone who feels the same to join in remembrance of a life well-pedaled and to further the cause of bicycle safety in Maine. Registration opens July 31 at www.bikereg.com/share-the-road-with-carol. For additional info, visit our Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/CarolsRide or email us at [email protected]."

Special mention of the asshole driver in a #DodgeRam who overtook me on a bend, very close past me.
But, in general, car drivers drove around me at a considerable distance. 🙌

@ryanboswell Sucks you had to put up with this. Seen similar attitudes on Page Street.
I'm pretty tired of feeling like a pedestrian in a GTA video game when I walk around SF.
The worst intersection near me is where Waller, Castro, and Divisadero meet. Cars fly through with no regard for the crosswalks there.

New study suggests today’s #SUVs are more lethal to #pedestrians than cars
“Our findings provide more evidence that manufacturers need to make design changes to help combat the increase in pedestrian fatalities now that more of the vehicles on the road are SUVs"
June 16, 2020
"Though their designs have changed considerably over the past two decades, late-model SUVs still appear to be more likely to kill pedestrians than cars, a new study from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found.
"Thanks to advances in safety, the number of people killed in motor vehicle crashes in the U.S. has fallen from more than 50,000 in 1980 to 36,560 in 2018. Over the past decade, however, the number of pedestrians killed on American roads has ticked steadily upward.
"'The proportion of SUVs in the U.S. fleet has grown dramatically, so it’s discouraging that they still seem to be more deadly to pedestrians than cars are'
says IIHS Statistician Sam Monfort, lead author of the study." -

Um, I'd say, "YES!" Even here in #Maine I'm noticing way more #RoadRage than there used to be. Last year, when a jerk in a truck hit my car, he threatened both myself and the witness -- even though he was at fault. There is definitely something wrong with people (and it seems to be mostly men from my own observations).
The Rage Epidemic: Is Our #ModernWorld Fueling #Aggression?
After a video of a man screaming road-rage abuse through a car window went viral, we ask what’s behind the fury so many feel.
Andrew Anthony, May 2024
"Aaron Balick, a psychotherapist and author of The Psychodynamics of Social Networking, believes that new technologies have ushered in an era in which 'there are more ways to express anger' and there is less shame attached to its expression. He also attributes this cultural shift to politicians such as Donald Trump who have 'normalised' anger.
"According to the Gallup Global Emotions Report, anger around the world has been rising since 2016, with 23% of respondents now feeling angry on any given day – figures are understandably much higher in war zones.
"In the #UK shop workers and service staff have reported sharp rises in customer abuse in recent years, and one study showed criminal violence in GP surgeries had doubled in five years (this was back when it was possible to get an appointment in a GP surgery). Reported road-rage incidents also increased by 40 per cent from 2021 to 2022 (although lockdowns would have played a part).
"Anger, aggression, abuse and criminal violence are, of course, all different things. There is also a psychiatric classification of 'intermittent explosive disorder'.
"Psychologists draw a distinction between anger (an emotion) and #aggression (a behaviour). [...] 'Anger is a natural emotion that arises involuntarily,' says Balick. In basic psychological terms anger is a means of alerting another that a boundary has been crossed. 'Obviously you can also be angry on false premises,' adds Balick.
"'Saying how you feel is anger,' says Michael Fisher, founding director of the British Association of Anger Management. 'It becomes aggressive when you start to scream and shout abuse.'"

I wish I knew more about this project in San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
I suspect this is part of bus driver training.I'm imagining the DMV making it a part of every driving test for your license. Some people learn best by experiencing the consequences of their actions from the victim's perspective.

The bike lanes in BC are getting crowded as more ‘micro-mobility vehicles’ hit the road
Vancouver and Victoria are grappling with how to create space for micro-mobility vehicles: e-bikes, scooters, electric scooters, electric tricycles, electric unicycles, unicycles and more

Hmm... 🤔 You're right. Why should there even be sharrows? It can imply that No #sharrows means No #bikes allowed.I'm more on comparing it with our bike lanes. Most are unprotected*. No barrier. Just paint. Supposedly to say that the lane is reserved* for #bicycles. But obstacles are common -- vehicles parking on it, people standing on it instead of the sidewalk, and such. So for me, sharrows are more sensible since no one cares anyway. Let's share it all.
