"We know vehicles on Australian roads are getting progressively bigger: more protective of their own occupants, but potentially more dangerous to those outside them. Here’s what we found:
every additional 100 kg of vehicle weight was associated with a 6% increase in the odds of pedestrian fatality regulation
every additional 10 cm of height was associated with an 11% increase in the odds of pedestrian fatality
utes and US-style pick-up trucks were associated with around 60% higher pedestrian fatality risk than conventional passenger cars
the relationship was even stronger in lower-speed environments. "

“More than half of all road deaths are people who aren't even in a car – they are walking, cycling or riding a motorcycle. When roads are designed as if only car drivers matter, these people are left dangerously exposed,” said Dr Etienne Krug Director of the Department of Health Determinants, Promotion and Prevention at WHO. “We know what works – strong laws and enforcement, safe infrastructure and vehicles with particular attention to lowering speed and addressing impaired driving. This declaration means we must all go further and faster.”

Loud vehicles cause harm to #children, #pedestrians and #bicyclists on a daily basis, yet #TinaKotek and her administration look the other way out of fear of Harley owners, who can "customize" without regard to those exposed. Nevermind the #tunercars and #4x4s.
There are vehicles, with no #DEQ inspection, yet they abuse those condemned to use public roads with egregious, otherwise illegal in a *workplace*, noise levels.
