Details of #ScotGov owned #ScotRail timetable changes; good to see extra #trains on Sundays on many routes, making #CarFree leisure travel more do-able.
(But when did ScotRail remove the few other operator services from their timetables? Not helpful for full overview of #Inverness + #Aberdeen #InterCity trains and especially not for #EastLothian travellers! #Integration is much more important than hiding other services out of spite and making travel options look worse!)

@karochan3 as it has had, consistently, since 2015.
It hasn't done us any good, and won't do us any good while the #SNP remain douce and couthie and respectable.
"#Westminster says no" cannot be allowed to be a block on democracy for ever. We're going to need organised resistance -- things like shutting down the cross border electricity interconnectors. Obviously those are things #ScotGov can't do -- but if it can't, it needs to support a civil movement that can.

The SNP candidate secured close to 50% of the vote in my constituency in the 2021 #ScotGov #election, such that I fear that my vote won’t make the slightest bit of difference in next week’s election.
Anyway, handed off my postal ballot to the postie this afternoon. #CivicDuty and all that.

Great to see it confirmed that #ScotRail will replace the (sadly) “past best before date” IC125s with Class 222 #trains on #InterCity services, with 6 bike spaces, catering, charging sockets, etc, and that they hope these will start to enter service from late 2027.
(Sadly still diseasels, while the #ScotGov ongoing electrification programme gradually extends northwards.)

I don't think that adopting #OpenSource software for government administration functions would leave Scotland 'stuck with choosing between US... or EU cloud services', @thecommongreen.
After all, 'cloud' is just space you've hired on someone else's server infrastructure, and it would be more economic long term for #ScotGov to invest in its own.

"There is no serious question that if #Trump so ordered it, Microsoft could deliberately shut down all services to the Scottish Government and our public sector and the Government must now react as if this is just as much a risk to our democracy as if it was discovered that Putin could send the same order to the same effect" -- @thecommongreen

"If the Scottish Government can’t close Prestwick, Wick or other Scottish airports they own to hostile or illegally operating US military traffic the way it did for Israeli military traffic in 2024 then officials there should do everything in their power to make it as difficult as possible for the US to use those facilities" -- does #ScotGov not now wholly own Prestwick, @thecommongreen ? You'd think they could just block US flights there.

@marjolica @junesim63 Scottish Government ones used not to be. I have to admit I've found some recent #ScotGov less impressive than I found them ten years ago.

Sighing and creating my fourth distinct "one account for all government services" on a fourth platform (plus all the accounts for some specific government services). Main annoyance is checking that this "one account for everything" is not a renamed version of an existing "one account for everything" that I already have an account for.... #UKGov #ScotGov

@kim_harding Unfortunately, the news in that piece is only that new windfarms are being built.
The bit about a battery in every household is not news, but just opinion. It would most certainly be an excellent idea, but there's no indication that #ScotGov are even considering it -- and I don't believe that, under the devolution settlement, we'd be able to fund it.
Any thoughts, @thecommongreen ?

With view to #census data and collection, maybe important to point out that there is a consultation ongoing until 30.09. informing the content of the Scottish #Census 2031

Good to see #ScotGov promote #sustainable #transport + reduce high cost of peak-time travel on (state-owned) #ScotRail #trains (but is it just a cynical pre-election bribe?). Not entirely convinced fully scrapping peak fares is the right move: reducing them to only slightly more than off-peak wd still help to spread demand, encourage flexi-hours working + better use of less busy trains. Also worried “off-peak” fares might rise to balance the books, hurting leisure travel.

Bus services in Galloway have been catastrophically cut. This is because local government is broke, which is in turn because #SNP #ScotGov lacks the courage to reform local taxation.
I hadn't appreciated how bad the situation is because I've been ill since July and consequently haven't left the farm much. But I'm still too unwell to cycle into the nearest town, and getting there and back by public transport doesn't seem to be possible.

For those for whom the Gillies Report* or the hearings at the #ScotGov Education, Children and Young People Committee** are too long, this is a really good thematic summary of the findings and evidence.
The topics and quotes invite reflection, not only at #DundeeUni. It is a bit of a questionnaire of "have you seen this happen?", "have you felt or experienced this?"

The UK Supreme Court debacle today is yet another reason we should've gone fucking indy. Arseholes.
Thanks to the government (Scottish) for trying to make things fairer though. Please continue to fight for trans rights.
... And maybe ratchet up the indy talk again, eh?

@Wen It's kind of late for this. Our #SNP #ScotGov sold out a huge slice of Scotland's renewable resources in the #ScotWind scandal.
Yes, we need #ScottishIndependence -- but we need a pro-independence party that isn't utter shit, and the SNP isn't it. I'm hoping @ScottishGreens may be, but they're untested as yet.

@thecommongreen @ScottishGreens if I wanted to ask what proportion of industrial subsidies paid out by #ScotGov over each of the past 15 years went to businesses involved in
the oil and gas industry, how would I best frame that question? -

@sinabhfuil @thecommongreen here in Scotland, councils receive most of their funding as a grant from #ScotGov. That grant could be docked for councils which declined to levy a second home tax (or a land tax, or a wealth tax).
Aiblins, #ScotGov is ower frit tae tak on the lairds an the fowk wi siller, forbye.

@kim_harding England != UK. The UK is a quasi-federal nation and very little actually applies at a UK level nowadays… 😠
(And are #ScotGov not sadly cutting back on cycling funding, after having made some good progress in recent years (whether the funds were actually being used, or used for useful projects, perhaps being another matter…))

The discussion in this podcast of the switch from Russian to Ukrainian in the spoken language and in street signs in #Ukraine raises strange echoes here in #Scotland. I kenna o an ae page on the #ScotGov wabstaund scrievit in oor ain lied.

@peterbrown Doesn't look like a wrecking ball to me, more like a power lift.
Whether #ScotGov have the courage to use it is, of course, another question entirely, but that's on them.
-
"The new group also wants the Scottish Government #ScotGov to “kick-start a bold plan to tax wealth more fairly, ensuring those with the most contribute their share to Scotland’s future.”"
-
@thecommongreen you could not make this up. The big consultancy firms must be laughing at #ScotGov – all the way to the bank.
-
#ScotRail sadly failing yet again to provide a proper quality #InterCity service. What really should be a 4 or 5 coach #InterCity125 ends up compressed into a 3 coach regional #Turbostar instead. The sooner they replace the now clapped out and unreliable 40+ year old #HST with more reliable modern proper InterCity trains (and #ScotGov electrifies the routes), the better!

Finally, as I said above, land on which the #LandTax was not paid would automatically revert to common -- i.e. to the management of the local community. This would drive rapid and effective #LandReform.
I envisage that #ScotGov would appoint a Common Lands Factor to manage lands on behalf of those communities who chose not to manage it themselves.

It needs to be said that this speculative bubble and the unscrupulous and the fraudulent '#CarbonCredit' nonsense underlying it has been consciously and irresponsibly driven by #SNP #ScotGov policies.
This is not JUST bad lairds; it's also really poor governance, and if you're still voting SNP in the face of this, have a long hard look at yourself. This policy hits Scotland, it hits the people of rural Scotland, and it benefits only the kleptocrats.
