Aberdeen Artists Against Fascism will be co-hosting a display by local artists at the Aberdeen Social Centre for this year’s Doors Open Day: Saturday September 5th between 10-4.
Aberdeen Artists Against Fascism was formed to mobilise artists to take collective action using art as a tool of social and political change.
The display will feature several pieces on loan from Peacock & The Worm, including ‘Cutie Jones’ a screen-printed reproduction of British artist and anarchist Jamie Reid’s first image for the Sex Pistols made here in Aberdeen in the 1970s.
A collection of zines from around the world will also be on display, curated by Aberdeen Zine Library.

🏴 The #Scottish Parliament has recognised David 'Davie' Adam, Operations Manager at First Bus Aberdeen, as he prepares to retire after a 47-year career in public transport. Local MSP Jackie Dunbar presented Adam with a framed parliamentary motion honoring his service to regional #transport and his role in major historical events.
Beginning as an office junior at #Aberdeen Corporation Transport in 1979, Adam rose through the ranks as a conductor, driver, inspector, and controller before taking charge of First Bus operations in Aberdeen in 2011. Over his career, his logistical planning proved vital during key events, including coordinating transport for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, handling passenger operations for Operation Unicorn following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and managing transport for the 2025 Tall Ships festival and Offshore #Europe conferences.

“Kirk of St. Nicholas” — Black doors and entry arch, Kirk of St. Nicholas, Aberdeen.
There is a bit of a story about our May visit to Aberdeen, after our northwest Scotland loop and before we flew to Ireland. Patty had been to Aberdeen decades ago for a music festival, when she was on an international orchestra tour, and I think she has always wanted to revisit this place. In addition, it seemed like a good place to enjoy a couple of slow days before embarking on the rest of our six-week trip through Scotland, Ireland, and England. So we had no big plans, and on this day we simply headed off on a “random walk.”…more: https://gdanmitchell.com/2026/07/30/kirk-of-st-nicholas/

“Poetry 86” — A weathered Aberdeen wall with graffiti, pipes, and street art.
It may seem odd that someone cast as a “landscape photograph” is also intrigued by rough-edged urban scenes. To some these subjects may seem as radically different from natural landscapes as can be imagined, but I see connections. In fact, I like to think of photographs like this one from Aberdeen, Scotland as “urban landscapes.”…more: https://gdanmitchell.com/2026/07/27/poetry-86/

CW: snakes in a bag, Scotland
#SSPCA rescued a #python in a bag, amongst 500 others taken in by the animal welfare organisation since 2020 (it seems many are being abandoned due to the energy cost of keeping such #pets in a Northern European country that gets cold in winter!)
They have also built a snake obstacle course in #Aberdeen (alas, there are no photos or videos of this-and it would be cool to see are STV's reporters all scared or snakes, or (more likely) a lack of budgets?

High costs and unreliable #deliveries for #parcels in Shetland, report finds
Consumer #Scotland has published a report into its findings in #Shetland, #Orkney and the #WesternIsles, saying #islanders faced “high #postal costs” and “inconsistent services”.
A #RoyalMail decision to move postal #flights to #Glasgow instead of #Aberdeen has often been cited as resulting in longer delivery times in Shetland.
