People proposing this sort of catastrophic, planet destroying nonsense should be treated like war criminals -- oh, wait, no, we no longer prosecute war criminals, instead we promote them. They should be treated like paedophiles -- oh, wait, no....
We should fine them of everything they own and imprison them for a really long time.
But we won't. So our beautiful planet will die.

"British officials say this is an inevitable consequence of a years-long wait to connect to the National Grid, and raises an “interesting question” about the UK’s climate targets."
It doesn't raise any 'interesting questions'. It drives a coach and horses through our #ClimateChange targets, and signs the planet's death warrant.

@urlyman This graph is a delusion. The curve doesn't work like that.
There may still be a way to continue to extract fossil hydrocarbons for another 150 years, but it would have to be done by robots. There won't be any humans, any mammals, any warm blooded creatures left to do it.
In which case, what is the point?
The point is this: the true right hand side of that graph is a cliff, and we are teetering on the edge of that cliff right now.

@urlyman Yes, but this is irrelevant, too, because this time we can't: we're up against a hard limit imposed by the laws of physics. We're heating our planet beyond what is habitable for us.
So we either abandon fossil hydrocarbons altogether, or we end complex life on Earth.
Full disclosure, I believe we're choosing the second option. Certainly, #UKLabour and the #SNP are.

@urlyman ...and we're going to see many more wars -- over resources, over potable water, ultimately and most brutally over the remaining fragments of habitable land -- as the #ClimateCrisis deepens. Unless we turn our economies around RIGHT NOW, within this decade, and abjure the use of fossil hydrocarbons altogether.

@CelloMomOnCars simply the cost to future generations of removing #microplastics and 'forever chemicals' from soils probably exceeds the total value added to the world's wealth since the industrial revolution. We're not selling our grandmother's saris, we're burning them to produce toxic ash with which to poison our environment.

@petealexharris Economics is more fundamental than politics because at its root (even though economists don't acknowledge this) it's rooted in physics. The current neo-liberal economy *will* automatically destroy the living planet, by overloading the atmosphere with free carbon.
A political system -- such as #Trump's America -- *might* destroy the living planet through nuclear war, but it is by no means constrained to do so.
