When can you use your carer’s leave entitlements?
When it comes to taking time off work for your own personal illness or injury, you probably have…

Was at #dentist again today for hygenist appointment, whilst waiting was sat near to a senior lady (about 75) who was unsteady on her feet.
One member of staff walked over, asked her "have you brought anyone with you?", briefly looked over at me and then sheepishly realised mistake she had made (I was just there as a patient myself!)
TBH I could understand it, minutes afterwards one of my own work colleagues appeared in the waiting room, assisting a lady of similar age (who used a wheelchair) - I wasn't even too bothered about non-malicious racial profiling but more about security aspects (a #carer should not normally be in his street clothes with 0 uniform and ID!)

When someone asks you to help out as a carer, ask yourself if they've considered a practical plan for how that's going to work before you start.
That may include:
✅ considering the impact on your health & finances
✅ shared access to their GP / NHS
✅ creating a PoA (H&W, Finance)
✅ a realistic plan for their property
✅ an emergency care plan in case you're unavailable, or if they deteriorate beyond what you can manageThoughts?

Sometimes my caring responsibilities feel too much and I snap in frustration over something stupid.
That’s followed by guilt and shame at being angry with the person I love most. I hate myself for hurting their feelings. But of course it’s too late when you’ve hurt someone.
I wish I could find the way to not feel so trapped, as though I’m serving a life sentence. I don’t always feel this way but when I do the taste is bitter. My person is funny, sensitive and sweet, and is mystified by my explosive emotions/reactions (They’re neurodivergent and not inclined to be loudly expressive like me. We’re so different.) I so wish I was more easygoing and could let ‘stuff’ wash over me.
The weird thing is I don’t seem to see it building up and when the flashpoint blows it’s always over something ridiculous.
I wish I could find the way to change…

I've been on here for a while, but in this new era of having my real name as my display name, it's finally time to write an #introduction post. I spend most of my time being a full-time #carer for an unwell member of my family. Before that, I was a lecturer in mechanical and marine #engineering at #PlymouthUniversity, and before that a postdoc researching various bits of #environmentalPhysics and #engineeringFluidMechanics at the #UniversityOfCambridge and #UniversityCollegeLondon...

I took this pic through an office window at the end of a wonderful, though demanding week, being the full time carer of an elderly family member on holiday. Cannot tell you how much it resonates! Made me smile big and wide. It’s okay to both have a nice time and to want to scream afterwards. #introvert #carer #family

‘This so-called “cliff edge” means a #carer who earned £1 more than the threshold for 52 weeks would pay back not £52 but £4,258.80.
The effect had created a debt trap, and La Rocca could see thousands of people falling into it.’
La Rocca was an honest civil servant who tried to blow the whistle many times on what he could see would be an unfolding carer’s scandal, but the senior hierarchy of the DWP either blamed careers themselves or at best put its faith in technology resolving the issue.

I’m working with my support network to help me start doing the things I love and need again. I’m asking Cs mum to come over on Thursday evenings so I can attend church home group. A church friend is coming over on Monday so that I can attend #AndysManClub. It’s so crippling being trapped in the house because C is not well enough to be left alone to care for baby.
