Fourteen times the record caught up.
We missed one: the High Street Laundromat. The ledger now stands at 14.
But #13 is the story that matters now. NHS England promoted Palantir’s £330m data platform with performance figures its own methodology could not prove it caused. The regulator intervened. Independent analysis found no detectable overall improvement.
The full evidence, counterarguments and 46-source record:

I can't help but think that the conservatives who run some of our critical institutions have really let us down, with their recklessly rapid adoption of digital systems;
Using digital platforms for health information and communications ought to have been a slow, careful process, preceded by thorough investigation of privacy protections like ... I don't know ... keeping personal data structurally separate from publishing data 🤦♂️

Resonates: “the software is over-sold & not nearly as useful or reliable as presented” - as always with this general type of ‘service’ (seen it all before in different circumstances); good to see some pushback. Health-related data is complex, complicated, nuanced; requires sophisticated expert tools and actual experts to derive meaningful results… all things that US companies are not known for & some might say have zero to little experience with… and for sure not in a good way.#oversoldSoftware #NHS #Palantir #InformationInfrastructure #dataMining #pushback #healthData #privacy

UK Biobank Data Surfaces for Sale on Alibaba Amid Security Probe
UK Biobank data was mysteriously listed for sale on Alibaba, but thankfully, the listings were swiftly removed with the help of the UK and Chinese governments, and no sales were made. The sensitive data, which includes genomic information, health records, and medical imaging, had been shared with researchers but was de-identified to protect…

WHO: New WHO database helps countries turn health data into better policy. “Health information systems are key to well-functioning health systems. That’s why WHO has just launched a new database designed to support policy-makers, experts and the public in countries across the WHO European Region to better understand and improve their health information systems and data governance. @aproposnix i fully agree. But how can we build software tools and also devices, that are just that simple to use and are under our own control? I‘m in IT and unfortunately I haven‘t seen #foss software, that can compete on UX with the big players. You need to pay for the people desiging thing to be easy usable.
for me having my data under my own control is not that hard, but #healthdata is a real problem - even for the IT pros. -
#DigitalSovereignty in #Europe seems to be most about cloud infrastrucre, but what about personal health tracking? Most wearables and apps run on US or Chinese backends. IMHO, that’s a problem. The data mining implications are serious, and I haven’t seen much talk about building European alternatives. Are people working on this, or is it just being ignored? Some #FOSS health apps exist, but they’re data silos. Maybe we need an ETL tool to pull it all together. #healthdata #askfedi
