  4. UK Biobank Data Surfaces for Sale on Alibaba Amid Security Probe

UK Biobank data was mysteriously listed for sale on Alibaba, but thankfully, the listings were swiftly removed with the help of the UK and Chinese governments, and no sales were made. The sensitive data, which includes genomic information, health records, and medical imaging, had been shared with researchers but was de-identified to protect…

  14. @aproposnix i fully agree. But how can we build software tools and also devices, that are just that simple to use and are under our own control? I‘m in IT and unfortunately I haven‘t seen #foss software, that can compete on UX with the big players. You need to pay for the people desiging thing to be easy usable.
for me having my data under my own control is not that hard, but #healthdata is a real problem - even for the IT pros.

  15. #DigitalSovereignty in #Europe seems to be most about cloud infrastrucre, but what about personal health tracking? Most wearables and apps run on US or Chinese backends. IMHO, that’s a problem. The data mining implications are serious, and I haven’t seen much talk about building European alternatives. Are people working on this, or is it just being ignored? Some #FOSS health apps exist, but they’re data silos. Maybe we need an ETL tool to pull it all together. #healthdata #askfedi

  16. Movie vs. Snapshot 🎥
Do you need a 24/7 "movie" of your glucose or a daily high-res "snapshot"? CGMs offer constant data for active management, while RE.DOCTOR provides a non-invasive fasting glucose check plus other vitals in one scan.

  19. I just had to make an online payment for a blood test here in #Australia. The payment form included a Google #Captcha. This is so irresponsible for a company dealing with #healthData .

I used to make contact in cases like this, explaining the issues, but I have recently stopped because it is just futile. No one ever seemed to understand or care.

  20. Something that changed my approach to doctor appointments: bringing actual data instead of trying to remember everything on the spot. When I started logging my symptoms daily, I stopped blanking out the moment they asked how I've been doing. Even just a week of notes makes such a difference.

  21. I am submitting a brief to the Senate committee studying Bill S-5, Canada's health data interoperability bill. I support the bill but it doesn't go far enough.

The bill mandates that vendors build systems capable of sharing data. It doesn't address the privacy laws that prevent custodians from actually using that capability. And it does nothing for patient access to their own records.

  24. France’s Health Data Hub migration highlights the growing intersection of cybersecurity, jurisdiction, and public-sector risk management.

By requiring SecNumCloud certification, the government is prioritizing legal immunity, supply-chain trust, and national control over hyperscale convenience. This decision may influence how other countries approach cloud hosting for critical data.
