  1. I have good news and bad news.
Good news: My son has been born this week. He's wonderful, his mom's more than awesome (the birth (and aftermath) wasn't easymode, I'll not share further details other then that I have been full of joy but also really fearful at times, but German healthcare, at least where we live, is excellent).

Bad news: No weekly #MobileLinux update tonight/this week, and likely not for a bit - can't quite say, it really depends on how well we adjust to this new life.

(So if you always wanted to do something similar/better, go ahead!)

  6. As an update: the ACPM based thermal probes and power readings are wired up now. This also means that running a CPU intensive task is safe now (I hope). Before, the phone could have run the chip too hot, as dynamic CPU frequencies were already working. I’ve verified that the big core now stays below 90°C under sustained load. In a previous test, it briefly reached 125°C according to the thermal probes (I quickly killed the load). That’s one way you can kill your device #mobilelinux #pixel9a

  10. The code for my Pixel 9a experiments is now available at git.deusch.me/pixel-mainline. I’m including a big AI disclaimer in the repository descriptions. Anyone using that code has to be aware that I created it with LLMs as an (ongoing) experiment. While I always have the LLM validate commits against downstream code and traces, and also verify that things work on the device, there might be problems. I won’t take blame if you build on top of this code and your device gets damaged

  14. Progress update on Principia touch support: All TMS_BACKEND_PC (and _MOBILE) compile-time ifdefs that primarily gated touch code exclusive to Android are now completely gone!

Now your experience on touchscreen Linux devices should be about on par with the Android version of Principia when you tick "Enable touch controls" in the settings. This also goes well with the new `use_gles` in settings.ini to switch to OpenGL ES without recompiling!

New release coming soon but I would appreciate if people could also build and test master to see if I've missed anything (we've also upgraded to #SDL3 so plenty that can go wrong). I should hopefully also try to get Principia packaged in #AlpineLinux in time for the next release. You know where I'm going with this! :) (ooo... #postmarketOS ...)

  24. @joergi @clero @Oleksii An Android or iOS device is not needed to run #SignalDesktop on #LinuxPhones, even if registering a brand new account. #SignalCli works great as the primary device, either on your desktop or on your Linux phone itself. It is available from #Flathub and from Alpine / pmOS repos.

I think you can also use Flare as the primary device, but the option was hidden in the UI last I checked.

  39. WiFi required getting PCIe working first. Also, there’s now a very basic fuel gauge for the battery percentage. Most of my time over the weekend was spent on debugging sleep to idle though. I went down that rabbit hole after I found that postmarketOS automatically triggers suspend after a bit, which caused the phone to need a hard reset. Sleep to idle works quite reliably now. Deep sleep is still broken and triggers the ACPM watchdog… #postmarketOS #mobilelinux #pixel9a
