"The 355" will kein feministisches Manifest sein – aber der Film spielt durchaus damit, fast eines zu werden. Jessica Chastain hat den Film produziert, und genug davon, dass weibliche Geheimagent:innen zwar in High Heels aus Hubschraubern springen dürfen, aber nur damit dann ein Mann die Welt rettet. Flesh and the Devil is a 1926 MGM silent melodrama starring Greta Garbo and John Gilbert. A huge hit which made Garbo a star. Gloriously lurid, steamy, melodramatic and romantic and absolutely dripping with sex. Garbo sizzles. Great movie.

Downstairs (1932) is an excellent hard-hitting pre-code melodrama with John Gilbert in top form as a deliciously slimy cad obsessed with women and money. Lots of pre-code sexual frankness here, and a very pre-code ending.
