Mis paredes ya no dan para más, lo sé. Pero cuando vi el cartel de "liquidación total por cierre" en mi tienda favorita de cuadros y carteles entelados (sí, esa que también vende menaje del hogar), supe que el destino me estaba poniendo a prueba. Y, efectivamente, caí en la tentación. ¿La excusa? Un precio irresistible y una pieza que cualquier friki de las películas clásicas mataría por tener. Digamos que mi "adicción" al cine clásico ha sumado una nueva víctima a mi colección.

Bulldog Drummond’s Secret Police (1939), a late entry in the series. There's hidden treasure, a cypher, secret passage-ways, good action scenes. Sounds like fun, but it isn't. It's dull. Spectacularly fails to capture the magic of the novels.

42nd Street (1933), arguably the greatest musical of them all. Hardboiled, sexy, sassy, snappy plus those Busby Berkeley production numbers. It's like a delicious cocktail but with enough hard liquor in it to give it a real kick. Movie magic.

It's a pre-code movie and Bebe Daniels and Joan Blondell are in it, but sadly MY PAST (1931) just doesn't quite make it. It does have some pre-code naughtiness but comes across as slightly unpleasant. I just didn't like these people.

The Last Flight (1931) is a fascinating nicely unpredictable pre-code exercise in post-war angst. Perhaps the most successful attempt at existentialism on film. Two flyers return from the war, now they're going nowhere and they’re in a hurry.
