  1. Marceline Day as Buster Keaton’s non-monkey leading lady. Her acting career was only about 10yrs & spanned only 65 films but in that time she was in several many well known #SilentFilm. She retired in 1933 but spoke fondly about her career

  2. Despite “The Cameraman” (1928) being used for years by MGM as an example of the perfect comedy the film was almost lost forever b/c the ONLY COPY was destroyed in the 1965 MGM vault fire. The current restoration comes from prints found in Paris & a copy found in the early 90s. Additionally, one reel was removed from the film by MGM some time in the 1950s and the current prints have a noticeable 3ish mins or so missing as well.

  3. “The Cameraman” (1928) is considered one of Buster Keaton’s best films. While the directing credit goes to longtime MGM-era Keaton collaborator Edward Sedgwick, it’s known that Keaton was essentially the film’s co-director

  4. “His New Job” was Charlie Chaplin’s first film for Essanay Studios after he left Keystone in late 1914. It’s also the only film that Chaplin shot in Chicago, where Essanay Studios was based. After this he made a deal to shoot his films in California

  5. Finally, we have the short “His New Job” (1915) (youtu.be/3SgaLoPxOtQ?si=FeDxZm) directed by and starring everyone’s favorite British Romani silent comedian: Charlie Chaplin!

  6. We're always happy to give a boost to other local theaters showing interesting stuff, especially if it's silent--well, at least if it's not at the same time as one of our shows :)

Anyway, this Sunday, #TheRoxie is showing Menschen am Sonntag.
