#OnThisDay 20 Apr 1818: The end of Ashford v Thornton (1818) 106 ER 149 (http://www.commonlii.org/uk/cases/EngR/1818/3.pdf ; https://books.google.com/books?id=eugvAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA405) with Abraham Thornton allowed to go free rather than face a retrial for murder after his demand for trial by battle is upheld.
