    That is exactly the term indeed,
    but they are not overrated.
    A very big part of our knowledge about prehistory comes from grave goods.
    Of course, nothing compares to finding grave goods as they emerge from the ground, but if you ever find yourself in Varna, Bulgaria (on the Black Sea), the oldest gold artefacts in the world are exhibited in the Regional Museum of History there:
