🎓This afternoon, I had the privilege of participating in an amazing workshop at the club. Alongside fellow CareerSpring volunteers Laura, Anh, and Moira, and in partnership with the Fields Corner Crossroads Collaborative, we facilitated a fun and interactive session on crafting an elevator pitch for about 80 local high schoolers.
It was inspirational to witness so many young people learning while having fun. I know this generation will do well, and I wish them the best of success—I'm grateful to have had a small part in their journey. ✨

Having three #kids staying overnight with mine (so four in total) is ... an adventure.
Them all being #genAlpha is ... taxing.Weird lights in the #sky, they wanna go on a #UFO hunt.
Explain them that it's searchlights from a #solstice #festival, fruitless. Despite obvious visual evidence in the sky.
They ask the lie-to-me-machine (#AI). "It's a meteor, several in fact!" Searchlights, clearly.

Zhen (13) and I have been reading a kid-friendly retelling of Hamlet. I found this great find at our local public library!
I thought reading Hamlet For Kids (by Lois Burdett) together would be a fun way to introduce Zhen to Shakespeare without overwhelming her with heavy Elizabethan English.
I found this kid-friendly retelling of Hamlet at the public library! 📚🤓Today, we read the part of the drama when Hamlet sees his father’s ghost and the ghost tells him Claudius killed Hamlet’s father.
“What does prophetic soul mean?” Zhen asked after reading the passage.
I broke it down for her by asking her to think of what a prophet means and what they do.
I explained, “So, this is basically Hamlet’s poetic way of saying, ‘I knew it! I knew it was my Uncle Claudius!’ Hamlet was suspicious of his uncle, and now the ghost has confirmed those suspicions.”
“Ohhhh, so Claudius is sus!” Zhen exclaimed. 🤣
We both started laughing, and I said, “Well…yeah! I guess King Claudius is sus!”
Such a Gen Alpha way to explain Shakespeare! Haha 😄😎 But it made me happy Zhen made the connection!

Zhen (13) and I have been reading a kid-friendly retelling of Hamlet. I found this great find at our local public library!

I’m at a farmers market and I check the wind, literally, to find a spot to hit my vape, and take a hit off to the side. Some #GenAlpha goes, “you can’t vape here.” I just look him in the eye and reply, “you sound like a cop but you don’t look like a cop. Are you a cop?” hitting “cop” hard.
All his friends just died laughing at him.
I took another hit of my vape as they walked away.

I just told my kids (in a long winded and overly dramatic manner) the story of the supercomputer, Deep Thought. How it was set the monumental task of answering the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything, and that after eons of calculations it finally returned the answer:

Then I asked them....
"What's 6x7?"
They lost their goddam shit, and left for school giggling their heads off about it.
Gotta love that the classics can be integrated into #GenAlpha #BrainRot , and it at least enouraged the eldest to briefly consider reading the books 🤣😄
