Accidental Education - An Exercise In The Random @accidentaleducationblog.wordpress.com@accidentaleducationblog.wordpress.com ·Review: How To Be a Lion by Ed Vere
Vere, Ed. (2018). How To Be A Lion. Doubleday Books for Young Readers *Downloadable activity sheets at the bottom of this post! This is a great book about being true to yourself and honoring your differences and those of other people. But also, of found family and friends! "Some say, there's only one way to be a lion." In the Savannah, "some say there's only one way to be a lion." You must be fierce, and loud, you must chomp those creatures smaller than you! Drawing with the kids 👩🏽🎨
Today, I enjoyed a calming activity with the kids—sketching and coloring flowers. 🌸 The flower activity was part of a science lesson for the kids to draw, color, and label a flower with pollen.
I turned on a jazz playlist to help us focus on our artwork, and as we were creating our sketches, it started to rain.
Perfect timing! 🌧☺️
We discussed shapes we could see in the image of the flower.
One shape that stood out to Zaya (5) and Zephaniah (8) was the middle of the flower reminded them of a hexagon.
So, together we sketched a hexagon shape onto our sketch pads.
Surprisingly, drawing a hexagon is not as easy as I thought it would be! It took me several tries to finally get the six sides connected to form the shape. 😆
Next, we discussed the vibrant yellow color of the pollen and its purpose. We also made connections to the flowers and vegetables growing in our garden.
There was something unexpectedly joyful sitting at the kitchen table with Zaya and Zephaniah, drawing and coloring together.
Keep in mind I am not an artist 😅.
However, the children told me they thought my purple flower looked amazing, and really, that’s all the recognition I needed. 🥰
💜 XO
It feels good to be back outside now that the air quality is improving.

A colleague shared a post today that inspired this, let's say, 'response'. Do #LLMs ruin everything?
This is always in the back of my head anyway, so it wasn't particularly difficult to write a #blog post and ask #NotebookLM to summarise it for a #podcast.

Homeschool Mama
ABC'S and 123's Teaching young ones how to read. Next Geometry and Chemistry. Now on to ancient history. Back to letters and the sounds they speak. All the while a toddler is tugging at my knee. The dog needs to be fed and probably outside to pee. But right now I am chilling in ancient Greece and teaching about Socrates. The life of a homeschool mama isn't for the weak. Through every lesson, it's His strength we seek. -
Wonderful feedback from the school we were at yesterday with excerpts and workshopping from Macbeth
