Someone illustrated an article about a software vulnerability with a photo of a computer - basically a stock photo. The computer is in a museum and old enough that it can't run the software in question, which is a bit of a minor nit. The author is obviously too young to know this.
But what's funnier is that it's a from-front-and-above picture of an Apple IIc with the classic monitor on a perch above the computer - but the author didn't recognize that, and the caption identifies it as a laptop 🤣

My elder teen used the word "self-considerate" (as in her friend wasn't going along with what she wanted her to do but she understood that it was because the friend was respecting her own boundaries) and it is now part of my vocabulary.
I am not being difficult, I am being self-considerate.

I have been *really* trying to make the lecture a small piece of an average class, rather than the dominant center -- or to get rid of it altogether when feasible -- but when students don't do the reading and you've planned a whole session around the assumption that they will come to class prepared...
When they don't complete the pre-work you do to accompany the reading...
When you even give some time at the start for reading/free-writing and still only get participation from the same two or three people...
It gets discouraging. 😞
I try not to complain or generalize about students but they're testing me this week...

Weirdly I was recently playing a platformer video game discovered the description called it a "Rogue-like". I was flabbergasted how someone could think of a platform action shooter as being in any way like Rogue.But @kenoh pointed out that, apparently, among the younger generation, in some circles "Rogue-like" has come to mean games having any obvious aspect that is procedurally generated.

I feel like an #OldFogey saying this, but back in my #CircuitCity days, if someone returned an item, we tested it to make sure it wasn't defective, then packaged it back up to the best of our abilities, and put it back on the shelf with an #OpenBox discount sticker, usually 20-50% off retail price. We never sent anything to the #landfill unless it was legitimately broken beyond repair.

I was just about to email someone with a 'sketchy plan'. But then remembered my son uses sketchy to mean shady/dodgy (an Americanism?).
Do I now have to avoid sharing sketchy ideas? They could be vague or draft, but in my head they're just sketchy (Brit style) #sketchyidea #kidsthesedays #slang #SemanticShift
