  1. A friend of an aunt interviewed my kid for a job. She then said she'd pass it on to her boss for a potential hire and also her (the friend's) husband for resume advice.

    Since then, radio silence

In our house there is disagreement as to next step.

Opinion #1: Just wait. This is a family friend situation--they aren't going to just forget about you. You'll hear back. (Sub-opinion: If you can think of a reason to contact them about something else to remind them you exist, do that.)

Opinion #2: The friend was previously unknown to us and had no particular connection other than the aunt. The boss and husband even less so. If something came up or the email scrolled down their inboxes a ways, it is effectively gone. Send a polite "have you heard anything?" followup ping to the friend.

Sometimes it's important to omit the use of CWs when speaking about important social and culture issues or spreading critical information

    This is not that time.

Please use CWs generously. There are many, many things about this situation that are triggering or traumatizing to people. This is what CWs are made for

  20. How come we don’t say ‘bless you’ when people fart? Same thing like a sneeze right?

I mean irl, I don’t even say bless you - because as an atheist I gotta put my foot down somewhere 😂

But we should start saying bless you when someone farts.

  25. My fav* "helpful" replies...

Oh you have a question about a minor adjustment or quirk of an application you're using? Table-flip everything you're doing and switch to this totally different competing product/service. 😑

What have these people suffered such that they think the solution to a small problem is to throw all your familiarity & experience into the garbage and restart from scratch? Do they place no value on one's time? Bizarre.

    * Stop it.

  35. @benroyce

The Sixties trope of "Letting it all hang out", seems to have extended even further in American culture.

"Better out than in" was never meant to cover the behaviour of #VonShitsInPants.

  40. #RandomThoughts
    I'm wondering about hashtag etiquette.

I usually put hashtags at the end of posts.

Sometimes, like right now, I have one main one at the beginning, sort of like a headline.

Occasionally, I'll include them online in the body of the post if it works naturally and saves space.

I don't use the same one more than once per post.

In a list at the end, I usually put one per line. Should they be alphabetized? In order of importance?

    How do you do it?

  45. Besides #aging, what else can we do to appear old enough to work at a #university?

Before we talk, people on campus often say (or act as if they believe), "You look like a student".

I always wear a collared shirt and non-denim, non-athletic bottoms (e.g., dark grey slacks). However, I rarely wear dress shoes (because the campus gym does not allow them and I can't fit extra shoes in the backpack I wear while riding to work).
