Alongside @commonsnetwork @goteo_fund and friends across the Fediverse, we presented the Democratic Tech Fund prototype and ran sessions on governance, P2P financing, and community-owned social spaces.

Public-interest technology does not survive through code alone. Digital commons require continuous coordination between communities, institutions, maintainers, contributors, and funders — structures capable not only of building tools, but of caring for them over time: setting priorities, distributing responsibilities, managing conflicts, and protecting the values embedded within the infrastructure itself. This session moves from strategic principles to institutional architecture, using role play and co-design to collectively work out what governance for democratic technology actually looks like in practice — and what it means for the Democratic Tech Fund right now.

Hi @arod, thanks for the compliment! And I very much agree with you. We need to unite forces between grassroots commoners and cooperativists with institutional support, such as public and private funders.

That is precisely what we're working towards with the setting up of the Democratic Tech Fund. We think this logic - and our shared values - should be anchored in its foundations, before we can accept such funds to multiply our seed funding. We cannot "just" bootstrap it - there lies the challenge. Any help to connect the dots, also with the institutions willing to multiply our collective effort, is much appreciated. Let us say that we need to go beyond the neoliberal public-private partnerships: we need civic-public-private partnerships, on our terms.

To make it concrete: to move away from Microsoft (teams, sharepoint) and Google (drive), Nextcloud is a decent option, but you may also want decentralised group chat like matrix, maybe a better collaborative document server, à La Suite Docs, video conferencing like BBB or La Suite Visio. And of course a Single Sign On - one account to log on.

Altogether this is not something every individual person or collective may want to run for themselves, so you need a service provider, ideally a cooperative one, where you can be a member of and collectively maintain a production team and a process to evolve together - as technologies (and social needs) evolve.
In this sense the @coopcloud federation provides a backbone to work together on the development and maintenance of the tech stack as a "configuration commons". With the #dtf we became members, and it is exciting to see what is cooking there and how people/cooperatives collaborate along shared goals.

I'm excited to see more people join the process to build up the Democratic Tech Fund. Many of us are fed up by the @DigitalCoup, and we know that there are so many communities already working on bits and pieces of the solution.

We need to do this #bottomup, based on solidarity and commons economics and organising. Let's weave the tech communities with the social movements and the social and solidarity economy. Together we can do this.

Given the #DigitalCoup and the urgency to transition to #DigitalAutonomy, we’re building up the https://DemocraticTech.Fund. It is a networked approach, aiming to increase our collective capacity, to discover the tech that is already available to us, to deploy it in ways that we can own it, to share learnings of the transition, to move there together, so we can overcome network effects.

It is our intention to identify together the gaps of what is needed to make the transition, to fund that collectively. This can be tech, media to raise awareness for the positive alternatives already out there, and federating our communities. We’re starting as civil society, and we intent to invite institutions – public and private – to chip in and multiply the contributions. Together we can make the impact that is needed.

Итак, мы закончили наше повествование на том, что SeaDogs ака “Корсары: Проклятье дальних морей” вышли в 2000 году в России и за рубежом , и мгновенно стали бестселлером (если можно так сказать про видеоигры). Кратко пройдусь, почему: тема, подача (трёхмерная RPG про пиратов с полноценными морскими сражениями!), реализация, сюжет, музыка и озвучка. “Акелла” мгновенно вознеслась на олимп игростроя, и принялась ковать железо, пока горячо. Дмитрий Архипов в интервью DTF тогда так сказал про этот момент: “Почему никто не перенял эту успешную формулу морских приключений и не пытался её скопировать? Потому что мы чётко заявили — мы будем делать вторых Корсаров! Нужно найти свою нишу и конкурировать на своём поле, где остальные заведомо слабее. На тот момент ни у кого не было даже идей конкурировать с нами напрямую. Американский журнал “PC gamer” назвал “Акеллу” лучшей командой для создания морских игр.”
