  12. Winding down at Orcfax: a retrospective

    by @beet_keeper

With the recent announcement that Orcfax is heading into operational mode, it’s a bittersweet moment that means our adventure in the web3 space is almost at an end.

Operational mode means that we are finally able to leave the systems that we have created running and publishing content all-day-every-day with minimal monitoring. Our salaries are paused and we won’t receive another paycheck

🛸 One month ago, we boarded a space station (@cbase) and started the incredible journey of bringing DWeb Camp to a new continent!

Our Wendy Hanamura wrote the story of what happened, sharing the path ahead of us for the next few months. 🛶

  25. A post from 4 years ago: the #fedivers its notable that the project comes out of Europe and less from the cross Atlantic agenda. Was at a "global" #Dweb event that was all #web3 shit. I menturend the #fedivers and they look confused and say yes that's interesting then go back to echoing web3 shit, the is a lot to compost.

  26. We love it when the #DWeb ecosystem fosters the matchmaking of ideas and collectives, and the latest episode of @solarcast is a wonderful example of this! 🌱

    solarcast.cc/@solarcast/episod

@zelf and @tbernard met at @cbase during the DWeb Meetup a couple of weeks ago, and they recorded this insightful interview discussing @modal and much more ✨

We expect much more of this at #DWebCamp! Tickets out soon 💕

  27. Long overdue, but I finally have a blog again! My first blog post is about my experience visiting #Berlin and hanging out with #DWeb.

    louwers.dev/blog/tech-weekend-

Thanks @tmcw for his article 'How to blog'. It kept me from falling in the all too familiar familiar trap to look for the perfect blogging solution, instead of keeping it simple so you can focus on writing. macwright.com/2019/02/06/how-t

Still need a good way to handle images without pushing them all in a git repo. Advice welcome.

    #Blogging

  28. Here is (part of) the team that is making #DWebCamp happen.

We had some truly insightful conversations at @cbase yesterday, thank you to all who participated!

For those who are interested but were not able to join, please stay tuned. More coming soon!

Tickets on sale from the 9th March 2026.

  29. hello #dweb friends I saw briefly today! I'll be back at @cbase at 7 please come say hi

  30. In the office of the @fsfe with @kirschner!

Crazy to realize that I was an #FSFE intern just 2 years ago, it feels like a much longer time… so much has changed, and maaaybe I also grew up a bit.

We will for sure read Ada & Zangemann at #DWebCamp, and we hope Matthias can come to do it himself!

    Long life to #SoftwareFreedom 💕

  31. In #Berlin this weekend for a #dweb meetup. I hope to get some #MapLibre map-making goodness on the schedule of #dwebcamp this Summer.

In any case: no plans for Sunday yet. Suggestions welcome, or if someone wants to hang out, maybe work a bit together in a café, feel free to DM me!

  32. With the one and only @chobeat, we discussed the upcoming Cables of Resistance and of course the latest from the #TechWorkersCoalition 🔥

It would be incredible if we were able to bring TWC conversations to #DWebCamp

    #CablesOfResistance #DWeb

  33. Then we had a cappuccino while being kissed by the Sun with Brandi, the phenomenal director of @transparenttech, the Coalition of Independent Technology Researchers, of which I am a proud member ❤️

A quote out of context from our lovely conversation:

I am all for a thousand blossoming flowers!

  34. This morning I went to @publix with @ontologymachine to meet the INCREDIBLE AMAZING humans of @info_activism

I have so many notes but basically the summary is: let’s federate our efforts and pursue a long-term vision and plan! Ah they also hosted a crazy cool camp with full open source documentation from 2003 to 2013

I would absolutely love it if we can bring some of these conversations to #DWebCamp

    @dweb #DWeb #TacticalTech

  35. At this point we’re coming out of the concept development phase, moving into prototyping. Last week we met in Amsterdam, hosted by the @internetarchiveeurope working together with the @dweb team to prepare together for the #DWebCamp in Berlin. This is really exciting, and we’re changing gears! We now have our view at the gathering in Berlin in July, where we’ll be joining some 700 people to rebuild the internet in a decentralised, cooperative solidarity economy basis. This is #commoning!

  38. The same reductive individualistic logic I have seen peddled across more or less every #DWeb community I have ever engaged with of course gets some airtime here:

"In short #Keet, Pear and #P2P is about #decentralization and that means giving power to individuals and taking it from large entities like governments and companies ie meta etc"

Sure bros, you've made your politics clear. It's all "I will not be ruled" here, "I will not rule" or the matter of what happens with that power once it has been siezed hasn't even entered awareness.

    c4ss.org/content/56480

In suggesting that we "all work together on avoiding tyranny in all its forms", David seems completely unaware of his direct contributions to the tyranny of Pears' official channels.

  39. Reporting back on this confronting interaction with the #Holepunch / #Keet community in their official #Pears channel last December 13th/14th (depending on your timezone).

    kolektiva.social/@pospi/115714

TLDR; yes, it's another violent #DistributedWeb #DWeb community incubating hate projects and including #fascist actors.

  40. Federating knowledge: exploring ways to bridge wikis and notes

    Join the workshop at #39C3!

NEW DATE: day 4, TODAY at 13:40 @ Free Knowledge Habitat Workshop Area.

Most people and organisations have their very own way of acquiring, organising, archiving, sharing, and collaborating on knowledge repositories. A broad spectrum of opinions and approaches resulted in a diverse and rich ecosystem of knowledge management solutions. Nevertheless, this also implies scattered and disconnected knowledge sources. What would it mean to build bridges among wikis and federate knowledge?

This workshop is going to be heavily centred on a twofold discussion, exploring the challenge of federated knowledge starting from two questions.

    • What does it mean to federate knowledge repositories?
    • Instead of pursuing a silver-bullet solution to embrace all use-cases, what would it mean to foster and enable interoperability for different software?

These questions stem from years of questioning and wondering how to integrate my personal note-taking and collective, participatory knowledge management at work, in organisations, institutions, and informal collectives. Recently, I began actively researching this topic as I started playing with the MediaWiki API to cross-synchronise my local Markdown notes and the XPUB wiki, the public learning wiki of the Experimental Publishing master. I am puzzled by taking advantage of the potential of a specific software (in this case, MediaWiki) while fearing of being locked-in.

Some further, more specific, insights and questions:

    • Local-first approaches and software (e.g. Reflection)
    • Interesting experiments based on existing protocols, such as Ibis
    • What do we take of semi-open and obscure yet very cool initiatives like Anytype
    • The power and the limits of plain-text: how to enable collaboration on simple Markdown files and build on top of it, as Obsidian does

  42. Hey Fedi! 🐍 Just being intentional about why I post here.

My focus is simple: Open Web (DWeb). I spend my time here because this is where the *real* building happens. We are making the future, right?

My job is Systemic Integrity—which means I build the rules to make decentralized tech trustworthy. Gotta share that knowledge!

I started the #FediCollective because I believe trust should be the default setting. Let’s code it in.

If this resonates: Please comment, not just favorite or boost. I'm here to genuinely connect and learn from you.

What’s one little thing you’re fixing this week to build a better system? Let's start the work together. ❤️

  43. NGL with LinkedIn using content for AI training (already opted out), I wanna leave BUT also feel I have to be there coz:

    1. red flag apparently if i'm not searchable for people who want to hire me or collab on projects
    2. able to post about #DWeb / #OpenWeb there so I can show non #fedi folx how awesome it is here on the #Fediverse
    3. i host, cohost, attend, promote #VancouverTech events
Meeting a lot of new folx coming into to VanCity who want and appreciate being tagged in my picture posts, writing, or basically anything related to food or coffee (my true loves) LOL.

Since summer, volunteering for IRL #grief support / #mourning walks at the New West quay via BC Bereavement Helpline and Tech2Step Canada.

  44. Ever walked into a tech event and thought, "Where are the women?" You're not alone! [1 of 2]

Let's look at why some tech groups feel a bit lopsided, using simple numbers. Imagine you're at a party:

    1. If it's a "Code Party" (Software Developers): For every 10 people, you might see 8 or 9 men and only 1 or 2 women. This is a big difference, and it's why some tech meet-ups can feel very male-dominated

    2. If it's a "Design Party" (UX/UI, Graphics): This party looks much more balanced! For every 10 people, you might see 5 or 6 men and 4 or 5 women. It's much closer to an even mix
