Sakura the Siren
an old Gorebyss OC I decided to make into a (false)Sucrosien. I decided to share him here since he will likely be used for a lot of weird gore stuff XD
his name came from the original Japanese name for the pokemon he's inspired by being "Sakurabyss"
main idea for now:
he lures in Sucrosiens however he can, usually by flirting or pretending to be injured and needing help, then he will go in for a kiss. once he kisses someone, they're done for, since he uses his long tongue to drink them like soup. he will also drink the blood and sometimes suck up an organ or two once he's done with the "stomach soup". he has no interest in the rest, and often leaves the corpse behind for scavengers.alternate idea I'm considering: he feeds the "scraps" to his pathetic partner that he sometimes uses as a living lure. would be based on Huntail, but sucks at hunting. lol

@eniko While I know of some games that have managed pretty good visuals in small screens (eg.: Monster Hunter on the 3DS, 224p), 1.- those use a vastly different visual art and engine, highly reliant on zoom and 2.- 100px is still too small for that, IMO.
At that size limitation and if you might be facing redoing all the art for porting to consoles anyway, have you considered switching the art style to "symbolic" and using "symbolic tiles" rather than "graphic tiles"?
Kinda like games such as #ZZT did back in the times of the DOS, when you had to deal with 80×25 terminals (no graphics mode, even).
Symbolic visual art can also give a game a pretty fresh coat of paint depending on the genre, as can be seen in games such as #VVVVVV , and on a console port you could even add a "retro option" switch for the visual engine like how #MonsterBoy does, for extra fancy.
For extra bonus, on symbolic tiles you could even just use fonts for some symbols, since many of them have a 10pt option.

TIL the branching of the #WonderBoy franchise is surprisingly complicated. I was a Nintendo kid so I never grew up knowing any of these*...but I just started playing #WonderBoyTheDragonsTrap, which is a remake of the third game, and I LOVE it, so I started looking into this further.
There's the main Wonder Boy series, but it eventually turned into the Monster World series, with the fourth game starring a female protag instead. Then there's the remake of one of the two Wonder Boy III games (yes there's two different third games), specifically The Dragon's Trap, which itself then spawned an original successor called Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom.
And then...

🎮 J'ai testé "Monster Boy: the Cursed Kingdom", un metroidvania basé sur l'univers de Wonder Boy, saga mythique du temps de la non moins mythique console Sega Master System (1985–1996).
Sorti en 2018, il a d'excellentes critiques et de très bons scores Metacritic (presse 88 / joueurs 8.8).
Le jeu idéal après Dead Cells… ou pas.
Après 2h de jeu, avoir vaincu les 2 premiers boss, et obtenu les 2 premières transformations (cochon puis serpent), je n'accroche toujours pas.
