  1. I’ve just finished Pearl S. Buck’s “The Good Earth,” and I’m seeking recommendations on similar books, from Asian writers.

I enjoyed the book, and I’m glad I read it, but I couldn’t forget that it was written by the daughter of white missionaries and not someone who knew the land and its ways as she never could.

I’m reading more classics, but it’s important to me that I seek out voices beyond dead white people, no matter how well-regarded the novel.

  2. I created this after the election.

Use this at your library. Shop with me (I won an online bookstore!). Do whatever you need to do.

I add to this list weekly. Updates are automatic. It’s a “pay what you can” model and whatever I get helps to keep providing accessible educational resources.

  3. The energy y’all have for Onyx Storm is what y’all said you’d have for Black and brown authors starting back in 2020.

Where’s that at??? What’s on your shelves?

*pulls the curtain back to reveal SJM, Hannah Grace, King, Gaiman, Clare, Rowling, and an unread copy of “White Fragility”*

  5. @NerdyNativeMama Hello! I stumbled on your #DecolonizeYourBookshelf 2023 reading challenge and will follow it! For the third year in a row, my one and only New Year's resolution is to read more books by BIPOC and LGBTQ+ folks. It's a resolution that's fun and achievable, unlike losing weight or decreasing alcohol!

  6. Looking for a South Asian rec for the #DecolonizeYourBookshelfChallenge?

This was one of my favorite reads of 2022. The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna was fun, emotional, and the perfect cozy fantasy.

Take Bewitched, add in the antics of a Ryan Reynolds rom-com, and spice it up with diverse and inclusive characters. 👩‍🍳💋

    5/5⭐️

  7. @indubitablyodin i really love it. The keys are nicely weighted and clack so satisfyingly!

In the before-times when I would write in coffee shops it always had folks stopping by to talk about it :D I miss those days.

Today I learned something new in #Obsidian, how to exclude paths from a task list. So I can use Tasks to make a list (in this case the #DecolonizeYourBookshelf list) and not have that populate my Action Center lists.

  8. If you’re joining my #DecolonizeYourBookshelfChallenge and prefer a printable checklist or would like to digitally track your progress:

I created a mini journal kit to help you! Comes with a b&w printer friendly version too. Link is in my bio 😊

  9. Huge thanks to Scribner Books for reaching out and sending me this ARC. 1/31/2023

“Stolen” by Ann-Helén Lasestadius is a #Sámi story out of Sweden.

It takes place in the Arctic Circle addresses hatred & violence against the Sámi.

This is based on actual events, which isn’t a surprise as violence against #Indigenous peoples happens on every continent.

This will be my first Sàmi novel and I look forward to sharing my thoughts soon!

  10. Being a bookstore owner means I’m a sucker for any book that features a bookstore.

    Duh.

The Storied Life of AJ Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin had me laughing and crying the whole way through.

Shop owner loses wife and finds an abandoned baby dropped off inside his store.

This story will stick with me for a long time. It was a cozy, emotional, and heartwarming read that I think is perfect for just about anyone.

I don’t own a Peloton. I had never even heard of Tunde before reading her book.

I was given an ARC of the audiobook and this STUNNING cover sucked me in. I’m so glad I read this.

Tunde touches on some really hard subjects like grief & loss but gives all of us hope for the other side.

This book is PERFECT to read/listen to for #NewYear encouragement!

  12. @Paperbacks_n_Frybread

I love this challenge, definitely taking it to heart this year.

Wondering if your bookstore maybe has a list of suggestions for these? I have such a hard time finding new books these days.

I'm starting out my year reading a book by a Southeast Asian author.

  14. @Paperbacks_n_Frybread Likely last two of the year: I should be able to finish We Must Learn to Sit Down Together and Talk About a Little Culture: Decolonising Essays, 1967-1984, by #SylviaWynter
    and
The Immortality Thief, by Taran Hunt (#SciFi)
and probably start Conquest: Sexual Violence and American Indian Genocide, by #AndreaSmith
