  1. Does anyone know anything about the REM port on the side of tape recorders? Like what the spec is for interfacing with it? It's like lost technology on the Internet and I can't find any details on it

I'm assuming it's for remote control, but I'm getting mixed information about it

  2. Hey fedi, does anyone here have any knowledge about audio casette decks? More specifically my "band" has a demo and we want to record it on cassettes and idk what to look out for in buying a recorder.

  3. @emi @nina_kali_nina is this a good venue to confess my recent eBay binge on VHS-C and esoteric 1990s tapes?

Some of them have a luxury soap bar aesthetic, or deluxe chocolate bar. Others are clearly waiting to be smoked. I can’t wait to crack open and take a drag on a General Electric TC-20.

  4. My brother just unearthed and remastered their lost gem of an album Munaa!!! from Kukonmunapäät (1997).

This is truly a rare indie punk casette release from Oulu, Finland and captures perfectly that moldy bomb shelter studio vibe where all the magic happened when we we're young (and bored and frustrated).

  5. Found some long forgotten, neglected #ChroniclesOfNarnia #CasetteTapes with really faded spines on a hidden shelf when I got back from Inverness today.

So, I suppose I need to hunt for a way to try and rescue the audio from them, if they haven't already rotted away. That'll be... fun.

But I'll try to remember to borrow a tool for that (it takes forever though iirc cause you basically record it off in real time) and scan the covers.

Some #retro #preservation, hopefully. Don't hold me to this.

  6. RIP.

"Lou Ottens, who put music lovers around the world on a path toward playlists and mixtapes by leading the invention of the first cassette tape, has died at age 94, according to media reports in the Netherlands. Ottens was a talented and influential engineer at Philips, where he also helped develop consumer compact discs."
