Was gonna go to YouTube to listen to a song, but then remembered I have the album in .opus format, so why not just listen to the whole record, it's been a while anyway (Helmet's 'Betty').
Use physical and (properly backed up) digital media when you can instead of streaming, kids. Try to own your own shit.

Other than whyp.it and clyp.it, does anyone know of an accessible site where I can create a profile and upload mp3s with titles, descriptions, and tags? I am not referring to music. These recordings are things such as product reviews and demonstrations, personal opinions on various non-political things, demonstrations of how to do things blind, and general discussion. I am not interested in artwork or complicated layouts, nor in extreme sensorship (obviously barring illegal things). If you've seen Whyp and Clyp, then you know what I am seeking. Basically, it's an audio version of Youtube. For some reason, the Pricing page on Whyp won't let me select monthly, only yearly or lifetime, even if I click the monthly button. I also couldn't even get to that page from their site but had to use a search engine. AStill, the man who runs it is very responsive and kind. Maybe, I'll try sending him an e-mail.

🎵 Ah, another brave soul valiantly fleeing the evil clutches of Spotify to build their own "music stack" 🏗️. Because nothing screams "cutting-edge" louder than reverting to downloading #MP3s like it's 1999. 🙄

I'm 53 years old and I ditched #Spotify two years ago over their unwavering support for #JoeRogan and went with #Tidal, so this doesn't affect me. Yet. But so help me fucking god if Tidal starts to pull this shit then it's right back to downloading #torrents and #mp3s, because there is no fucking way I am giving up my likeness to some private company.

It's after 10pm here on a Saturday night, and my music-finding post is finally done and posted! ⚡
I know we all find music in different ways, and I wanted to write a bit on it. These are my methods and tools. Comment away on your own methods and tools-- I'd love to see everyone else's process, too!
Thanks to everyone who inspired this post, including in HUGE part @buffyleigh @starshaped and @Defiance.
Also tagging @HailsandAles @bendaubney @hl @skullvalanche @wendigo @DanielTuttle @BlueGambit86 @cory and I hope that anyone else that reads it and likes it gives me a shout.

Had to do a massive cleanup of the folder my metal mp3s & FLACs are in so when my playlist goes through them as I work (even in plain alphabetical order), there'll be nothing I won't wanna hear. I want a true no-skip collection.
It took MANY hours to pick out and get rid of the more mediocre stuff. Now I'm testing it out. Started at A for Act of Impalement a few hours ago, and I'm going all the way through to W for Wormridden. Wonder how long it'll take me to listen to all of it. 108 bands, 20GB worth of files. I'm currently in the Bs (Bog Wizard).

So, I'm finally curating my library of #mp3s `cue Liam Neeson voice` *acquired over a very long career of ripping CDs and downloading music... sometimes legally... sometimes illegally. *
72 GB/9k files.
I've been using #Winamp to play these for decades but you know what I just noticed? I can't change the columns of #ID3 that are shown in the playlist. Hurnh. So if I *enqueue* an album's folder, the songs are queued in the order they were in Win.Explorer and I can't change that. wtaf :(

Dear God, but the Sony ones were always so brittle. Seldom had one that lasted more than a few months. Then again, I was rather rough with 'em, always tossing them into my backpack while out and about.
/used Discmans nearly into the #2010s
//even used them for #CDs filled with #MP3s

Despite learning a lot about computers when I was a kid from the Apple Performa my family had, I've never been an Apple guy, despite owning an iMac once myself. I also really didn't like iTunes, so I never had an iPod.
Back around 2005ish when people were mostly getting iPods and before I got my beloved brown Zune (that someone later stole) I had a wild and wacky (and physically HUGE in comparison) DMC XClef mp3 player that looked like this. It had a LOT of storage space for the time, for the price, and had no software like Apple or Microsoft packaged in with their mp3 players. You didn't need it! You would just plug it up to your computer and transfer the damn files, as it *should* be. A method I use to this very day with my phones.
And I just looked it up to compare, 5th generation iPods around 2005 had about 30 or 60GB drives, these XClefs had 80 to 100GB. I had a friend joke saying I'd never fill it up - and I had to tell him I already pretty much had. 😂

Just wanted to say I found my mp3 backup CDR and they still work. Lots of stuff I was never gonna find again any other way. Score! I used to make these playlists where I would pick a topic and find all the mp3s I could about it. Right now going through the aliens folder. It creates such a crazy mix of genres.
