  6. Dylan "I read the law and I'm here to implement it" M. Tylor gets up in the morning and decides to write age verification code that he himself calls "hilariously pointless and ineffective", within a week strikes 4 repos off his list, and i bet the Linux Kernel is going to be next (I'm joking... mostly)

It's worth noting that the first people who approved the PR on systemd repo are 2 big tech employees - Mircoslop and Redhat/IBM (why I'm i not surprised!!), someone then opened a revert PR, Lennart Poettering (systemd creator) closed it.. thus blocking the removal

And this is why you now have Liberated Systemd, a fork of systemd without Age verification.. which IS 'hilariously pointless and ineffective' at saving children

when engineers starts reading the law like a specification, this is what you get.. useful idiots.

  11. So I wanted to know a bit more about #agelesslinux and followed a link to their website.
Only to land on a "blocked" page by #Vodafone's "Secure Net".

What really makes me mad about this: This is *not* a setting that can be switched off in the router. This is *not* a setting that could be circumvented by using a different DNS (I almost never use the provider's DNS, anyway). So I assume Vodafone keeps a list of IPs to be censored, not on the DNS level but on their routers.

How nice by Vodafone to make the Net "secure" for us all by censoring websites that oppose policy that isn't even a thing (yet) in my country of residence! /s

  12. Honestly.. at first i was surprised (and disappointed) at some major Linux distributions not having a clear answer to age verification laws after weeks of their announcement, but then lots of them started discussing them. really! discussing them! what's there to be discussed?

"maybe we can implement age checks in a privacy respecting manner? 👉👈"

And it's just so happens this serves the corporation that you work for best interests! Big tech "Foss devs" have a clear conflict of interest here

  17. Ageless Linux is a civil disobedience project of the best kind...I love that they are literally spitting in the face of California and other places that have the AUDACITY to try to gatekeep computer/internet access.

Using hostile and draconian measures to siphon personal information from computer users in order to verify their identity (these are down the pipeline, as legislation is going to cause those to become an issue in the long term. Surveillance is always the first step, then comes the boot). What is happening in Brazil is concerning, as it gives those who would erase digital privacy a better blueprint. So far there is no actual verification in the greater Linux ecosystem; Ageless Linux sees the potential of that happening. This project wants to remove it too, based on how it will be implemented.

I love that the lead of this effort breaks down the law in a way that kinda makes sense to me. I love how this project flagrantly spits in the face of any regulators that had woken up and chose privacy violations as a way to start their day.

They are also tracking the responses of various distros and keeping people aware of their choices. Accountability is king!

  18. Not just Ageless Linux.. shoutout to @artixlinux for sticking to the free & open source software principles, I'm making the switch very very soon (to #artix :artix: )

we're living in a time where our current actions dictate what things would be like for the future generations, if you think a local checkbox (are you above 18?) is harmless, you should know that it's not about the checkbox!

things become much worse when you comply, next thing: VPNs, next: take a guess! you get the idea

  19. I have heard in passing that systemd already complied with the new law of two entities?
What are others doing on an arch systems? Is it advisable to change to initd or something? #archlinux #systemd #agelesslinux

  20. 👋 I have some questions if someone could help me:
    1. If #agelesslinux releases a code (when the #ageverification is up) would it work on other distros such as #linuxmint or does it only works on #debian?
    2. If #grapheneos is android based, they will get ageverification installed? And what about #sailfishos? I heard its linux but would it need also the agelesslinux debian code so they dont collect data?
    3. if #eu implements age verification, will this ageless linux distro work on eu too?

  21. So, there's this "Ageless Linux" thing that boldly refuses to ask your age, because who needs legal compliance anyway? 🎉 They're proudly sticking it to the man by not following the law and pretending this somehow makes them cool. 🕶️ It's like a rebellious teenager but with less angst and more open-source code. 🚀
