  3. Everybody Hates Data Centres:

"The plaintiffs claim the center "generates significant noise pollution from diesel generators and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including chillers, cooling towers, air-handling units, and condenser fans."

The suit further states that the noise produced by the facility is "not only excessive, but consistent and pervasive."

  5. Update. Now Mike Johnson is echoing the Clarence Thomas line that birthright citizenship (aka birthright tourism) devalues citizenship.

  7. Update. I should have noted Justice Thomas said this in his dissent.

Thomas: "The Citizenship Clause 'added greatly to the dignity and glory of American citizenship.'…Today’s opinion devalues that citizenship."

  9. "Professor fired over #CharlieKirk post could receive $1.9M in settlement."
    thehill.com/homenews/education

This is just the latest in a series. Universities that disciplined professors for criticizing Charlie Kirk knew or should have known that they were violating those professors' free-speech rights. But they did it to align themselves with the Trump admin, even on the wrong side of the law. Consider these settlements and damage awards to be a cowardice tax.

  11. Update.

It follows that politicizing the #FTC feeds the growing European movement for #DataSovereignty -- the movement for #EU users, citizens, voters, companies, and governments to favor tech platforms based in the EU.

This is not the first way that #Trump and #Trumpism are shafting US tech companies. Here's a separate thread on another way.

  16. "US Supreme Court just blew up EU-US Data Transfers."
    noyb.eu/en/us-supreme-court-ju

This is big but complicated and confusing. Here's my take:

US tech companies that want to sign up #EU users must promise (through a formal process administered by the US Commerce Dept) to comply with #GDPR #privacy protections, and submit to the oversight of an "independent" US agency -- until now the #FTC -- with the power to enforce those promises.

With no independent FTC, and no alternative independent agency standing by, US companies may have to stop accepting personal info from EU citizens.

  18. Outcry over supreme court decision to grant Trump power to fire agency chiefs theguardian.com/us-news/2026/j
Legal and labor experts say Trump v Slaughter decision upends settled constitutional law in favor of β€˜loyalty test’. #uslaw #uspol #SCOTUS

Justice Sonia Sotomayor called the Slaughter decision β€œegregiously wrong”, arguing that the majority had upended settled constitutional law in a ruling that, she wrote, β€œpromises to unleash only chaos”.

β€œToday, the court discards that democratic regime in favor of one that distorts the structure of government to fit the majority’s theory of unitary, total executive control. The result is a president who emerges with far greater power than ever before,” she wrote.

  22. Update. "Supreme Court ruling blocks thousands of lawsuits against the maker of #Roundup weedkiller."
    apnews.com/article/supreme-cou

The court ruled for #Monsanto because the #EPA said Roundup (#glyphosate) was harmless, not because the 𝘴𝘀π˜ͺ𝘦𝘯𝘀𝘦 said it was harmless. There's good evidence that that the EPA decision was flawed, if not cynical. It relied on studies written mostly by Monsanto staffers and the lead article has been retracted.

    Here's the #SCOTUS decision itself.
    supremecourt.gov/opinions/25pd

The upside: The #RepublicanSchism will deepen. Some #MAGA voters side with the Trump EPA friendliness to corporate polluters. Others (including #RFKJr when he could speak freely) side with #MAHA opposition to glyphosate.

The downside: More people will die from this poison.
