"A lawsuit filed under the U.S. False Claims Act accuses four major publishers of perpetrating a decade-long scheme to defraud the government by charging exorbitant #APCs. The case…claims Elsevier, Springer Nature, Wiley and Informa [Taylor & Francis] forced U.S. research institutions to submit false claims to the government for reimbursement through article fees up to 10 times the cost of processing the articles."

  2. It seems that unless you wish to sign up for Trump's criminal enterprise then doing his bidding is career death in US Law.

  5. The good news: "#JohnEastman, the attorney who masterminded the legal strategy behind President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, has been officially #disbarred in #California."

The bad news: Disbarment and disciplinary proceedings are currently governed by state law. But the Trump DOJ is considering a rule that would require state bar associations to suspend their reviews of DOJ lawyers until the DOJ does its own reviews.

More good news: Several states oppose the proposed DOJ rule, including CA, IL, ME, NY, and PA. Here's the position of the #Maine Supreme Court.

  6. The #SCOTUS search for a general rule on when presidents do and don't have immunity for their criminal acts is what #conservatives used to call #JudicialActivism. The older practice was to decide whether the specific acts charged violated the law, and "not reach" the question whether other, similar acts might also violate the law.
