@litchralee_v6 Definitely a drawback.
I lost my old GPG key a while back, and had I actually been using it for anything at the time, it would have meant gaining trust for an entirely new "identity." The same is true for #TOR and #I2P if I were to ever lose control of those keys. This presents the classic security trade off: TLS compromises a degree of security for convenience, where as fixed keys gain security at the cost of convenience.
I suppose this suggests that no single option can stand entirely on it's own.
My blog, thanks to my hobby of over-engineering things, is available via TLS (ipv4/6), TOR, and I2P*, and its contents are hashed and signed by GPG. All four elements work independently of each other so if any element were to be compromised, the other three could still verify it's authenticity.
In the scenario that I lost control of my TOR key, I could publish my new link and it could be verified through TLS, I2P, and GPG. A new GPG key could be verified by, TLS, TOR and I2P, and so on.Of course, I'm not suggesting that's a practical solution for every website, but building a larger web of trust does provide additional resiliency.
*Technically it's also mirrored on gopher... That isn't secured or encrypted at all, but who's actually going to bother forging that in 2026? 🙃

DEAD MIC #lispyGopherClimate live installing #acl2 #lisp #fol and #lambdamoo using #emacs #tramp over #i2p #ssh .

REMINDER/WARNING TO SELF:
.1) Unfollow @i2p after you've pinpointed the exact day they, as #i2pJava devs, turned to the sith by redirecting geti2p.net requests to cloud(g)lare #MITM attack website (i2p.net)
.
2) Shame #i2p devs periodically with the number of days they have stopped caring about basic communication.

Another question...
In trying to compare #VeilId and #i2p it seems like they're pretty similar and much of the difference is one is in rust and the other java.
veilid's documentation advertises being able to directly use a DHT and it claims to support recovery of the complex connection for mobile clients which i2p doesn't mention.
i2p seems to have more ways for other applications to opening streams over i2p.
Am I interpreting their docs reasonably?

Zerion 3.0 just landed two new transports in dev, on top of our native protocol stack.
I2P as an opt-in alternative to Tor, for people who want a different anonymity network. Tor stays the default.
And a Bluetooth mesh for communicating with no internet at all. Messages are carried encrypted from device to device, store-carry-forward, until they reach the recipient. Built for blackouts, protests, disasters, anywhere the network is down or cut.

Zerion 3.0 is close. Our own protocol stack replacing the inherited Bramble layers: Tor-only, post-quantum on every message, constant-rate cover traffic so an observer can’t tell messages from noise.
In final testing now, two more transports:
I2P as an opt-in alternative to Tor. And a Bluetooth mesh for communicating with no internet at all, blackouts, protests, disasters.
Tor stays mandatory. The rest is additive.

🎉 New I2Pd software release available: v2.61.0 - I2Pd is a slimmer version version of #I2P @i2p
#diva is also reseed service provider for the complete #I2P network and is publishing official #opensource #docker container versions of I2P.

Been reading about i2p recently, and I was wondering, why isn't it more popular?
It's sounds like a recreation of an old internet, with anonymity as a bonus.

#btpeer v0.12 release that now implements specified fake port ":1" on announce requests by default (use -p argument to forcefully change it)
https://crates.io/crates/btpeer/0.12.0
btpeer is #CLI tool and #library in #Rust to explore #BitTorrent trackers; it allows to grab peers for manual connections.
Modern βtracker crawler is also using it for crawler and catalog scrape, #I2P including.

Trust in online privacy is shifting! Our recent research presented at #MoneroKon2026 shows that users now trust mathematics and open-source tech more than traditional institutions or legal guarantees.

The quick techno-babel filled explanation is:
It's a toolkit for making decentralized peer 2 peer apps, services and cloudless applications.
So in this demo I'm unlocking a keychain that stories post-quantum private keys and info about servers, friends and apps I want to use.
Most apps can be built with typical restful style endpoints with backing data stored in a local (or scalable) DB. Here I'm introspecting a server hosting a couple web service projects.

@tinker
So hear me out what if we like use our PCs and connect them in a network and then you can use my internet and I use yours and no one can log cause we put more PCs in betweenLet me sketch it out
<My PC> - - (encrypted Traffic) - - <Person B> - - <Person C> - - <Person D> - - <Internet>
Wait....
(i2p has no clearnet by default and I know that tor is also probably overtaken by some states)
/silly /joke kinda

#btracker is now resolving #I2P torrents using SAM bridge for librqbit:

To share your #torrents just append following tracker in your #bittorrent client:

It seems that #i2p addresses are too long to put into the Bio of Fosstodon.....
