#PlumbagoEuropaea, aka the #commonleadwort, is a plant found in the Mediterranean Basin and Central Asia.
It’s also 💜-ing #melbourne at the moment!!
It’s everywhere and blooming with vigour.
This one is a wild-child… growing in a carpark and very happy indeed. It has spread to around 1.7 metres tall and about 5 metres wide.
Most of its blooms are full, the petals are shaped and defined with a single indentation along the length of each petal, from the ovary (centre), extending out the to the rounded petal edge.
The violet colour is consistent and gorgeous.
#Plumbago here has been a real pleasure this summer (and autumn!).

An excerpt from Cicero's Cato Maior de Senectute ("Cato the Elder on old age"). It was an essay published in 44BC on the subject of aging and death.
In it, Cicero makes reference to the relative vigour Masinissa had possessed in his 90th year. (148BC) During the previous year, the King had raided Carthage in a provocation which would lead to the third and last #Punic war between #Rome and #Carthage.#classics #antiquity #Cicero #Masinissa #Enlightenment #philosophy #Latin #histodons #Cato

Also, after missing both Cats and an absolute easy option with the most recent challenge, it's time to get back to the #AniMangaPictureChallenge ( @apc )! This week, it's "Rivals".
My pick is from "Dive!!". And, well, is there such thing as an Unrequited Rivalry?
Mizuki Diving Club's Fujitani is the best diver in the club, an elegant executor of dives, a fierce competitor, and a role model for everyone in the club.
However, he is challenged by Miyagi Spirits' Yamada (aka "Pinky") - a dramatic man who wants nothing else than to take down Fujitani in competition, and prove once and for all that he's a better diver.
And in practices, he is - flawless, and full of vigour.
In competitions, though...

Had the most amazing meet with the undie loving fit lad. Although he often takes a dom role, he makes the most amazing noises when you hit the right spots. I let him try on one of my silicone cockrings and got him harder than ever. Quickly got him face down on my bed, ass in the air while I ate him out with vigour. He then surprised me by asking for my cock, he's vers after all. He's so flexible I had him bent double while I stretched his hungry hole. I think we'll be doing this again

#Plutarch #ParallelLives #FabiusMaximus 8/
He did not purpose to fight out the issue with him, but wished, having plenty of time, money, and men, to wear out and consume gradually his culminating vigour, his scanty resources, and his small army.
Therefore, always pitching his camp in hilly regions so as to be out of reach of the enemy's cavalry, he hung threateningly over them. If they sat still, he too kept quiet; but if they moved, he would fetch a circuit down from the heights and show himself just far enough away to avoid being forced to fight against his will, and yet near enough to make his very delays inspire the enemy with the fear that he was going to give battle at last.

#Plutarch #ParallelLives #Pericles 12/
For this reason are the works of Pericles all the more to be wondered at; they were created in a short time for all time. Each one of them, in its beauty, was even then and at once antique; but in the freshness of its vigour it is, even to the present day, recent and newly wrought.
Such is the bloom of perpetual newness, as it were, upon these works of his, which makes them ever to look untouched by time, as though the unfaltering breath of an ageless spirit has been infused into them.

Kronosaurus (‘daddy’/Kronos)(Dinosaurs and Friends by De Agostini)
Written by DinoToyBlogThe DinoToyBlog has evolved over the years, much like the prehistoric creatures we review. Articles here are more substantial now than ever before. The average word count has increased, the number of photographs has gone up, and the scientific vigour has shot through the roof. It’s fantastic! But not every review needs to be an essay. Indeed, not every figure deserves an essay. Sometimes a […]

My favourite simply-typed #functional #programming language was, is, and will always be, #ML—#StandardML '97, nowadays.
To my knowledge, SML is the only modern #FP language that has a defined standard with a mathematically sound semantics, due to Milner et al.
In the 1980s and the 1990s, when the #CS and the #IT world were dizzy with #OO, the stewards of SML exercised their judgement with considerable vigour and valour to shun all pretences of OO. This makes the language simpler and lighter, compared to FP-OO hybrid languages like OCaml, F#, and the like.
While SML is by no means a simple language compared to say, C or Python or JavaScript, it is arguably the simplest among the descendants of ML, especially compared to modern Haskell. By "simple" I mean not only to use the language but also to teach it to the undergrad #CS students. ML's immense collection of textbooks and academic papers dating back to the early 1970s unburdens the teacher.
Yet, I usually recommend #OCaml to my clients who want to transition to FP, especially those clients whose "business" is creating large, robust, adaptable, maintainable software in science and engineering. My reasons are manifold, but the main one is that SML'97 is "dated", whereas OCaml is "modern" in all the venerable senses of that word.
Programming language #standardisation is a double-edge blade with a stiletto point. Without standardisation, the semantics of the language is squishy. After standardisation, the language is dead, unless the standard is kept up-to-date, like C, C++, JavaScript, etc. With or without standardisation, language longevity is hazardous, like the piercing point of a stiletto.
In any case, I feel like a traitor to my bloodline.🤦♂️

> Here you would have no steam-engines, vomiting forth smoke, and polluting earth and air for miles around; but on the contrary, the pure ‘stream of the mountain,’ flowing past in ceaseless profusion, carrying along with it freshness, health and vigour; whilst, in its progress through the town, every thing, having a different tendency, would be swept before it into that reservoir of health, and purifier of the elements – the ocean.

Some interesting thoughts and a good read I found on the net:
**Freikörperkultur und Lebensreform Sydney Project 2024**
We are excited to announce the start of a new project for 2024 that will bring the aesthetics of German Freikörperkultur und Lebensreform movement to Sydney. Stay tuned for developments thru 2024.
Freikörperkultur und Lebensreform Backstory
Freikörperkultur, which translates to ‘free body culture’ (FKK), is derived from the German Naturists Movement that started in the 1890s and is still practiced in northern Europe today. Beachs and parks designated for naturism are sign posted as FKK places.
German FKK naturism was part of the Lebensreform movement and the Wandervogel youth movement of 1896, from Stieglitz, Berlin, which promoted ideas of fitness and vigour.
At the same time, doctors of the Natural Healing Movement were using heliotherapy, treating diseases such as tuberculosis, rheumatism, and scrofula with exposure to sunlight.
Nacktkultur, a term coined in 1903 by Heinrich Pudor, connected nudity, vegetarianism and social reform, and was practised in a network of 200 members clubs. The movement gained prominence in the 1920s by offering a health giving life-style with Utopian ideals. Germany published the first naturist journal between 1902 and 1932, but it became politicised by radical socialists who believed it would lead to classlessness and a break down of society. It eventually became associated with pacificism...

US oil lobby launches eight-figure ad blitz amid record fossil fuel extraction https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/jan/10/oil-ads-lights-on-energy?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
Of course they did and it’s bloody obvious why.
Until these lobby groups and their advertising are banned, they’ll keep doing it. And with more vigour as the O&G companies come under more pressure. Look on it as a combat indicator. Counter attacks are to be expected during the fossil wars.

Saturday, lunchtime: two potatoes, rinsed lightly, microwaved for maybe twenty minutes, finished in a mini fan oven at 200℃ until crispy but not black. Served on a bed of mixed peppercorn and cheese sauces. I finish the meal and marvel, silently, at nature's many textures.
Sunday, 01:30: two more potatoes, rinsed with slightly more vigour, a massive clod of dried mud drops off.
I reflect, silently, on yesterday's inalterable enjoyment of a massive clod of delicious baked mud in cheesy peppercorn sauce. One of nature's many textures.

I had a powerful realisation about why I need to lean more into my authentic self this week.
Some of you will be aware that two of my deep interests in coaching psychology are the qualities of zest and self-regulation.
Zest relates to your motivation, energy, mojo, "vim and vigour", and a feeling of alive-ness.
Self-regulation is all about the structures, habits, principles and self-care practices you put into place in your life to feel more balanaced and settled in yourself.
A third interest is demonstrating in both theory and practice that the latter creates the former.
That is to say, if you regulate yourself, it can boost your zest.
It doesn't seem like rocket science when I put it like that, but I am the only coaching psychologist currently to say this explicitly and to be developing a theoretical framework on this - and one that can be useful and inclusive in coaching people like us.But what I've been doing is hiding this.
I have been too scared that people won't be interested or won't find this information valuable.
As such, I've not been sharing my ideas with you - the very people they could help - to the fullest extent.
I've also had an emotional block around actually producing and publishing my research, and around writing a book - something I have always wanted to do but have not yet put into action.
Thanks to a powerful coaching conversation of my own at the weekend, I have decided to draw a line in the sand and stop hiding my autistic research interests for fear of what others will think.
I will be more authentic and, as a result, happier for being and expressing my true self more. On balance, as long as it is safe to do so, we feel better in our skin when our insides match our public outsides. Currently, this is not true for me - I am hiding parts of myself that are important to me, and it's holding me back as a researcher and a coach.
So what this all means for you lovely people on a practical level is that I'll be talking and writing much more about zest, self-regulation, and the connection between the two.
If you're low on energy and motivation, and feel this would be of interest to you, I'd love to hear below...it'll give me a sense that there are people who will benefit from more honest and open sharing of the research I do.
Over the coming months, you'll see me change my branding messages, newsletters, and blog posts to reflect more content on the topics of zest and self-regulation for neurodivergent people...and how we can foster these safely and accessibly in coaching work.
It starts today. I'm drawing the line in the sand.
Wish me luck and continued bravery on this journey! And let me know if this special focus might be of use to you!
