  4. This week's #AniMangaPictureChallenge ( @apc ) is "Jobs"!

The job of playing in High-Stakes Golf Matches (sometimes for money, sometimes to represent high-powered criminal organizations) is a tough one, but someone's gotta do it.

Whilst not a traditional 9-to-5 kind of job... you might consider it Contract Work. :P

This is (of course(?)) from "Birdie Wing: Golf Girl's Story", and is one of the most absurd anime I've ever watched. But it's a very enjoyable story and well worth the watch!

  7. This week's #AniMangaPictureChallenge is "Air Conditioning"! And thankfully I didn't have to look far for this one - this is from "Smoking Behind the Supermarket With You".

Sasaki's work at "Genki Trading" is soul-destroying - a miserable boss who throws around blame, pointless meetings that run late into the night, and far too much work.

At least, on the warmest day of the year, the office is cool and the smoking room provides a brief sense of relief...

    Or maybe not.

    @apc #AniMangaFoundIt

  8. I had this week's #AniMangaPictureChallenge locked in the moment I saw it, and today, I can use my physical copy of a manga as an entry!

In Hirayasumi, Natsumi is an Art School student, but outside of that, she is an aspiring Mangaka. At first she harbours a sense of shame about her choice of pursuit, but over time, she comes to grow and embrace the friendships that support her in her passion.

I saw Hirayasumi described as a "Manga about Happiness", and that's stuck with me. It's not that nothing sad happens, quite the contrary, but it IS about how all of the characters pursue happiness in their own ways, and accepting that happiness can mean different things, to different people, at different parts of their life.

  10. Am I too late for this week's #AniMangaPictureChallenge ? It's been a while!

This week, I'm falling back to the old pattern of "spotting the theme in something you're reading/watching". So this week's Cake isn't a particularly plot-important cake. But the characters of "Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku" often chat together over coffee and cake. This cake, away on a company trip, is particularly Insta-worthy.

(Unfortunately my instance is struggling with image uploads right now, so I'll have to link them - apologies for lack of ALT text.)

Missed out on posting Golden Boy for swimsuits last week. Luckily, there is also an excellent bicycle episode where Kintaro really puts his trusty Mikazuki 5 to the test!

  12. After the brief discussion with @poppyhillz and @anime this morning about revisiting old favourites, I put on a couple of episodes of Barakamon - my all time favourite slice-of-life #anime .

    Lo and behold, I found a perfect entry for this week's #AniMangaPictureChallenge ( @apc ), "Dumb Phones"!

Barakamon was my very first submission to the #AniMangaPictureChallenge , back in August 2024. I think it's okay to use it again now. :)

After his flip phone breaks after a dunk in the sea, Handa is left without any way of contacting his friend and family in Tokyo. He takes a walk to the local store to use the phone, and is confronted by... an even dumber phone!

Much to the delight of the local children, Handa has no idea what he's doing.

  13. This week's #AniMangaPictureChallenge ( @apc ) is, well, "This Week".

To absolutely no-one's surprise, I'm going to talk about "Go for It, Nakamura-kun!".

I believe that improved acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community will be helped by "casual" queer representation - where the characters' sexuality or gender identity is just part of an existing formula or plot rather than the central focus of a piece of media. Therefore, I love queer takes on existing tropes.

"Go for It, Nakamura-kun!" is the gay equivalent of the "Hopelessly unrequited love" / "Awkward & cringeworthy teenage crush" show.

It's simultaneously hilarious, heartwarming, awkward, and relatable - and I love the styling of the animation, which throws back to 90s/00s style, with some banger retro pop EDs.

  14. This week's #AniMangaPictureChallenge ( @apc ) is "Video Games"!

My pick for this week is the game "Starlight Fantasy" from the #anime See You Tomorrow at the Food Court.

In all honesty, it doesn't look like a good game. It's clearly a live-service gacha game designed to hook people in and keep them paying for pulls. Its fanbase appears to be vicious. The gameplay is entirely unclear.

But for Wada, it is life. Primarily because it's the vehicle for her to swoon over her "2D Boy" Oshi, the Duke of Abel.

    #AniMangaFoundIt

  15. This week's #AniMangaPictureChallenge is "Remote Controls"! This is a really hard one.

And this idea, in my opinion, is not quite close enough for an #AniMangaFoundIt . But I captured the screenshots anyway, so let's post it as an "Also-Ran" or a "Swing-and-a-miss".

In "Magilumiere, Magical Girls Inc.", Magic is not conjured from wands, or drawn into hexes - it's programmed and transmitted to Magical Girls in the field.

During a visit to a conference, an emergency appears and the team at scrappy magical girl start-up Magilumiere need to act fast to neutralize the threat. Enter engineer Nikoyama's laptop - a way to create and send customized magic spells into the field!

The magic can be controlled, uh, remotely.

    Close enough?

  16. Also, after missing both Cats and an absolute easy option with the most recent challenge, it's time to get back to the #AniMangaPictureChallenge ( @apc )! This week, it's "Rivals".

My pick is from "Dive!!". And, well, is there such thing as an Unrequited Rivalry?

Mizuki Diving Club's Fujitani is the best diver in the club, an elegant executor of dives, a fierce competitor, and a role model for everyone in the club.

However, he is challenged by Miyagi Spirits' Yamada (aka "Pinky") - a dramatic man who wants nothing else than to take down Fujitani in competition, and prove once and for all that he's a better diver.

And in practices, he is - flawless, and full of vigour.

    In competitions, though...

🎤🎀 The full image of @apc's avatar. 🎈

This red balloon floating up in front of Nina Iseri was chosen to speak to the serious love of #anime and #manga we all share, but also to poke a bit of fun at some of the goofier challenges and submissions that come up from time to time. :)

Send your posts of this exact pic by @-ing @apc and using the hashtag #AniMangaFoundIt. Do so by 11pm EST, April 1st, to be featured in the community collage.

  18. Requited Love? Hey, i got something for this #AniMangaPictureChallenge !
Ain't these two just perfect for this theme? this moment is hard to get with pictures and just really shines when watching the scene itself, but i had to use it, the displays of affection of this anime are so adorable and make my heart go all fuzzy it's just so cute i love romances so much this is exactly what i love to see aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-

Ok, i think i'm a little calmer now haha, here!

  19. Last week, we saw plenty of love go unrequited. This week on the #AniMangaPictureChallenge, @heinragas wants to make amends with:

    ❤️ Requited Love 🥰

Not nearly so quick and easy as Love At First Sight, Requited Love can still bring plenty of joy and relief to those longing for it!

Show us your favorite examples of Requited Love in #anime or #manga by @-ing @apc and by using the hashtag #AniMangaFoundIt.

Send your entries by March 15th to make it in the community collage.

  20. Wait, wait, hang on. After submitting for 44 different #AniMangaPictureChallenge s, I still haven't used Bocchi the Rock??

    This week's challenge ( @apc ) is "Unrequited Love"!

And whilst I could go into some truly heartbreaking tales this week, let's go for something lighter and focus on Kita's unrequited love for her senpai Ryo.

It was a crush so overwhelming that Kita lied about being able to play guitar in order to join her crush's band. Whilst the love is not one that will be returned, Kita seems to enjoy being close to her crush anyway.

  21. @apc sorry I'm going to be very unoriginal and old fashioned here, but Frieza is archetypical. Mind you I'm talking about the character as it appears in the original Dragon Ball, not in any sequel. Two-dimensional yes, but that's Evil for you. I wouldn't want all villains to be like him, but he's perfect.

  22. @apc

Il Palazzo sama from Excel Saga. A terrible villian, really. While Excel and Hyatt are off (failing at) conquering this corrupt world, he's got time to learn electric guitar (poorly) or lose at a handheld dating sim game.

  23. This weak for the #AniMangaPictureChallenge the topic is "Hidden Gems".
This is Slow Loop, one of my personal favorite comfort shows ever since it aired back in 2022. It's about these two girls who each lost a parent and try to deal with that shock via fishing and cooking and family bonding. It is very wholesome and funny, with a great little cast of supporting characters!

  25. Okay, I need to get back to the #animangapictureChallenge ( @apc )! This week's topic is "Shields".

My choice today is from "Isekai Office Worker: The Other World's Books Depend on the Bean Counter"!

Accidentally caught up in a spell and sent to another world, 'corporate drone' Seiichirou discovers that his body cannot handle the magical energy present in his new world, and it's everywhere: in his food, in the air, and in the Isekai-equivalent-of-red-bull he's been chugging by the flaskfull.

Dashing royal commander Aresh is there to help, though - forming a shield against the magic with his touch and his own magical energy, to help Seiichirou acclimatise and recover. In the controlled environment of the doctor's office, hand-holding is enough.

    (Too tenuous? Ah well.)

  26. This week's #animangaPictureChallenge ( @apc ) asked us to show our #anime or #manga of the year for 2025!

There were a lot of good entries, but my winner for 2025 is Apocalypse Hotel.

Millenia after humanity has fled the earth due to an environmental catastrophe, a single hotel in Tokyo's Ginza district keeps running, meticulously maintained by its robotic staff, as the world and even the robotic staff crumble around them. Acting Acting Manager Yachiyo looks after the hotel awaiting the day that humanity returns... or any other guests show up.

This anime was warm, laugh-out-loud funny, with an incredible amount of heart. It's bizarre and wonderful in many different ways.

My images are spoiler-free so you can check it out for yourself!

    #animangafoundIt

  27. This week's #AniMangaPictureChallenge ( @apc ) is "Winter Wonderland"! I decided to dig into the vaults of some of my earlier anime series for this week.

My Winter Wonderland is the Ski resort that the class visits in "Toradora!".

The class arrive at their Ski trip, with varying levels of Skiing experience and skill - Taiga & Ryuji, our heroes, are definitely at the lower end of the ability rankings, to the point where Taiga is given a sled instead and Ryuji ends up quickly on his back when trying to ski.

Nevertheless, the mountains are pretty, the hotel is rustic-looking and pleasant, and the class enjoy their stay (despite the various dramas that erupt), unaware of what's coming their way later that night...

    #AniMangaFoundIt

  28. I hope I'm not too late for this week's #animangapictureChallenge ( @apc )! This week's topic is "Falling". And after @Ragashingo 's excellent list, I had to go digging.

After migrating from snowy Canada to not-at-all snowy Okinawa, Langa Hasegawa fears he's lost Snowboarding for good. After running into overly-keen skateboarder Reki, Langa decides to give skateboarding a go instead.

If he just straps the board to his feet, it's basically the same skill, right?

You stop a snowboard by turning horizontal to face down the hill, and leaning back, so that the board digs into the snow, and you grind to a halt.

When your board has wheels, and you're on tarmac, that approach does NOT work. As Langa finds out in his first dramatic fall.

    #animangafoundIt

  29. This week's #AnimangaPictureChallenge ( @apc ) is "Cooking"!

Inspired by @BongoMcnulty 's choice, I too have gone for cooking disasters. My choice is Hinako's early attempts at cooking from "This Monster Wants to Eat Me"!

After learning that Hinako is unable to cook and that her aunt will soon be away on business, her friend Miko comes over with a bunch of food with the goal of teaching Hinako to cook. They start with some bento components - meatballs, wieners, rice, and tamagoyaki.

    It goes... poorly.

You will be pleased to hear, however, that after this scene, Miko's 1 month of intensive cooking training pays off, and Hinako's bento becomes the envy of others.

This is an unusually light piece from an otherwise very dark anime - watch with caution.

    #AniMangaFoundIt

  30. This week's #AnimangaPictureChallenge ( @apc ) is "This Week" - the once-a-quarter theme to highlight what we're watching this season!

This week, I've been watching 3 different anime, but 2 of them I either have talked about, or will soon talk about(!) at more length, so today I'll highlight "A Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace"!

I've only watched the first episode of this but I've very much enjoyed the antics of Futami, her calm assistant, and her editor. I'm enjoying how Futami's imagination is shown as manga panels when she's enacting or discussing worst-case social faux pas that she might be making. It's almost Bocchi-esque in the worry spiral that needs her to be rescued by her coworkers.

    #AniMangaFoundIt

  31. This week's #AnimangaPictureChallenge ( @apc ) theme is "Ghosts"!

Anyone who's been following my (micro)blogging for the last week or two can probably guess where I'm going with this... My Ghostly entry is Fujiwara-no-Sai, aka "Sai", from Hikaru No Go!

Sai's spirit was lurking in an ancient Go board in young Hikaru's Grandfather's attic. As Hikaru explores the attic, Sai grabs hold and attaches himself to Hikaru.

Finally returning to the physical world after hundreds of years, Sai desires nothing more than to play Go again, and manipulates Hikaru in order to play.

Sai really is a spirit of two moods - deadly serious when playing over the board, but an excitable gremlin when he sees something exciting or thinks he'll get a chance to play the game that is his passion.

    #AniMangaFoundIt

  32. This week's #AnimangaPictureChallenge ( @apc ) theme is "Adulting"! This term describes people dealing with adult responsibilities of their day-to-day life despite not necessarily being ready for it. Doing it anyway means they learn and grow.

In my mind, no-one demonstrates this better than 4-year-old Kotaro Sato. He knows exactly what to do when moving into a new apartment complex: buy gifts for and greet your new neighbours, make sure to maintain good hygiene, go shopping and eat a balanced diet, and, uh, be prepared to fight off foes you find along the way.

#KotaroLivesAlone is a really enjoyable, and at times utterly heartbreaking, #anime series. As it progresses it hints more and more about Kotaro's past as he builds a new support network from those around him.

    #AniMangaFoundIt

  33. This week's #AnimangaPictureChallenge ( @apc ) is "This Week"! But, the seasonal anime that I'm watching have been covered already...

After how much I loved reading "She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat" ( urusai.social/@moleSG/11490467 ), I searched for a BL in the same vein, and I found the #manga "Our Dining Table"!

23-year-old salaryman Yutaka no longer finds pleasure in food, and the only thing he cooks is his own Onigiri for lunch. In the park, he comes across 4-year-old Tane Ueda and his scary-looking older brother Minoru (23). The two bond over improving the Ueda family's terrible cooking skills, and sharing food at their table. Helped along (and sometimes hindered) by little Tane, the two become close.

A delightful single-volume #manga that left me wanting more!

  35. Can I announce the next #AniMangaPictureChallenge early? I've got at least 6 candidates already, and I only made it half way through the list of anime I usually draw from.

  36. This week's #AnimangaPictureChallenge ( @apc ) is "Summer Heat"!

My pick this week is from "The Rip-Off Izakaya" #Manga series! Izakaya regular Kanji is troubled by the summer heat, which causes him to sweat excessively. He works as an Air Conditioning Technician, and received a complaint from a custromer about his sweating.

After sharing his woes with the regulars and the sisters who run the Izakaya, they get to discussing food & drink that can help with the summer heat!

Mine & Kaoru forgo their usual sake pairings to serve to Kanji a refreshing lemon radler to go with simple dishes using Tofu and Eggplant.

This series is a delightful little Slice-of-Life / Food series to whet your appetite about Japanese food and drink as the characters bond in their little community in the Izakaya.

  37. This week's #AnimangaPictureChallenge ( @apc ) is "Shipping Wars"! I'm not one for non-canon shipping, so today I'm ranking the 3 relationships in the anime "How I Attended An All Guy's Mixer"! In reverse order:

    #3 : SUO & TOKIWA
Sorry Suo. He just ain't that into you, no matter how you keep dropping the hints.

    #2 : HAGI & KOHAKU
Damn it, Hagi, I understand the confusion and vague queer panic you're going through. But if you get your shit together, Kohaku is totally into you. Stop making up excuses!

    #1 : FUJI & ASAGI
This boy is a treasure and most be protected at all costs. These two formed an easygoing & fun relationship, even if it's not quite official, and they just work. Fuji, you should tell him about the contents of your manga. He won't judge.

    #AniMangaFoundIt

  38. For this week's AniMangaPicture Challenge with theme "Siblings," I have 2 favorite sibling pairs:
    1. Tangiro & Nezuko from the anime Demon slayer
    2. Seita & Setsuko from the 1988 anime movie Grave of The Fireflies
