Una de las maneras de enfriar paredes es colocar vegetación al frente. Hace rato queremos poner alguna enredadera, pero no podemos hacer hoyos en la pared. La vecina nos había regalado recortes de su Ipomoea, que sembramos en macetas en lo que hacíamos alguna estructura móvil. Ya habían pegado y periódicamente había que desenredarlas de las otras plantas que tenemos sembradas. Finalmente ayer quedó listo un soporte para que se trepen y las instalamos. #MelvilleCaves are awesome!

Childhood memories of camping here came flooding back, by the river many moons ago, after visiting recently.

They’re located in #centralvictoria #Australia in a small township named #Brenanah.

Melville Caves are located in #KooyooraStatePark in, #Victoria. 

If you’re local: a day trip is a must!

Even in the cooler months it’s glorious. And check out the moss covered boulders and rock formations!

Some are huge… up to 50 feet tall I reckon. May be of interest to some of our #mosstodon enthusiasts! And #lichensubscribe (thx @cohanf)

We managed to pick a clear day and took some awesome nature snaps. And I’ll feature inside the caves, in a second post!

Here’s another… #ScarlettBottlebrush, a ground dwelling bush about waist height. It spreads though, so it’s adorned with beautiful pink ol foliage.

I love the long stems, covered in pink hair-like spikes. They are so pretty.

These were a regular feature in most #Melburnian’s homes in the 60’s - 90’s and now of course!

They’re good ‘ol charming #Pelargonium, from the #geranium family

These are native to southern Africa in the western regions of the Cape Provinces and they do oh so well in our neck of the woods, too!

#iceplant’s are so nice. They’re understated and humble in appearance but when they’re out, they’re just lovely.

It’s native to the Eastern Cape in South Africa and is naturalised in Portugal and the states of South Australia, Western Australia, and Victoria in Australia, as well as Pacific Grove, California.

Not sure how a species becomes ‘naturalised’ elsewhere, but apparently it is, in those other locales according to wiki.

Anyone have any idea?

#Mirabilis, is a species of flowering plant native to the southwestern United States from Arizona to Texas and northern Mexico.

These pics were taken on a warm, sunny mid morning in #McKinnon#Australia and I was perplexed why these flowers appeared ‘subdued’ in nature.

Compared to the many I saw this day, they were slightly closed whereas all other species of flowers were open and displaying prominently, pointing towards the sunshine.

Now I know the answer!

It is night-flowering!! That is, they tend to come out in the latter day and evening. And they bloom at night.

The flowers are mostly white, although there was an eclectic mix of colours here, strongly scented (yes, they smelt divine) and they’re long and narrow in form, approaching 17 centimeters in maximum length. Most of these were around 10 cm.

They’re beautiful.
