This ornamental plant, the #Nandina, is native to eastern Asia from the Himalayas to Japan.
They’re out in numbers here in #melbourne and this one was pictured recently, in the early afternoon sun.
The vibrant red fruit are clumped, tightly packed and in abundance here.
The berries contain toxins, therefore they remain in tact and preserved until they dry and drop. Birds know all too well not to eat these things!

#NandinaDomestica, commonly known as #nandina, heavenly bamboo or sacred bamboo, is a species of flowering plant in the family Berberidaceae, native to eastern Asia from the Himalayas to Japan.
This one in #Mckinnon #Australia I snapped on the weekend and it’s a happy and healthy looking beauty.
It displays bright-red fruit in the cool months. Although the berries are toxic to birds, especially towards the end of the winter when other food sources become scarce. The reason the fruit is untouched and in tact.
🙌♥️🙂

#redfloweringgum are so vibrant when they’re in their prime. The past few weeks has seen many of these come alive, with special blooms of red (mainly) throughout the suburbs of #Melbs.
They bloom right up to May.
It has a restricted distribution in the wild (it’s native home is only the south-west of Western Australia) but it is one of the most commonly planted ornamental #eucalypts.
And bees go wild for these; they must have an abundance of nectar to extract.
Just beautiful.

#Nandina turning colour here in #caulfield #australia
#autumn is well underway and flora is starting to react accordingly, as blooms prepare to die off, leaves start to change colours and (some) fall.
Gorgeous.
🙏❤️

#Nandina have been turning colour for some months now. Depending on their locale throughout Melbs.
But with the introduction of #autumn-proper, many are turning a bright red. And red all over.
Not sure I’ve seen so many turn so swiftly - and so dark for some time.
My mum used to grow these (a staple in my childhood garden) and whilst I marvelled as a kid with their ever-evolving colour changes, these ones I’m observing of late are really spectacular.
🙏❤️

Is this one called a #Nandina, folks?
It goes by other unofficial names by looks. If so, it’s native to both China and Japan.
These are (turning) deep red in many gardens in these early stages of autumn in Melbs.
These bushes were snapped in #Brighton #Australia. So vibrant.

#Gumtrees are my favourite large growing mass within the flora world.
They’re known as #eucalypts and csiro.com.au reports that there are 934 species of #eucalypt trees native to #Australia.
Gums typically grow to a height of 45 m (148 ft) but may sometimes only be a stunted shrub. Alternatively under ideal conditions, they can grow as tall as 90–100 m (300–330 ft).
IMO, they’re an emphatic statement of strength and resilience.
Gums can withstand prolonged drought conditions and still stand tall and present happy and healthy. Their trunks and branches are normally covered in a thin layer of white bark that sheds annually around this time of year (summer time).
Their leaves vary in size and shape, depending on the species.
My favourite are the shape as seen in these photos taken a couple of days ago near #Melbournes #Botanicgardens. They’re long (elongated), 10+cm (4+ inch) long and 1.5-2.0cm (3/4 inch) in width at their widest point.
Their leaves often possess a slight curved appearance, are usually deep dark green and clumped together, facing downward toward the ground, hanging from their branches.
This specific tree caught my eye. Its trunk is mottled with varying shades of whites, browns and greys. It is also pitted and indented along its entire length.
It really is a beauty

It’s #AustraliaDay today!
Australia Day is the official national day of Australia. It marks the 1788 landing of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove.
It’s celebrated with a public holiday, family time, sausage in bread, meat pies, fun and recreation.
Some choose not not celebrate this day given the challenges associated with indigenous rights and the plight of equality for our aboriginal people throughout their lands.
Today from a visual hedonistic day, I’ll feature the #Australian iconic #wattletree. They grow to between 3 and 8 m (10 and 30 ft) in height. My childhood home had a massive one on the nature strip, I remember it fondly.
Each flowering bud is a ball-like structure that is covered by 40 to 100 small flowers that have five tiny petals and long stamens, which give the flower head a fluffy appearance.
These trees flower prolifically from mid year but tease us all year round with small flowering growths.
These 📷 pics are sourced from lawn.com.au to show what a full bloom looks like. They’re one of my favourite iconic #Australian tree… for obvious reasons!!

#Melbournes #bottanicalgardens is host to this newly budding #wattle
This will be teeming with small yellow buds in a week or two.
One of my all time favourites, characteristically Australian and very iconic!
