  1. So for the start I would like to find anything relevant.
Internet places, communities, tags, anything that would help me get closed to people who are interested in making their phones be more than just content consumption devices.

Also I dumped all of my knowledge on this topic into a post on #XDA
    forum.xda-developers.com/t/pho
Maybe someone can find something useful or interesting in there.

  2. Ever played Command & Conquer: Renegade? There is a fan-made remake called Renegade X.
Ever played Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun?
Developers of Renegade X are making it an FPS/RTS hybrid

  3. @icculus
Is it necessary to do it on Twitter?
Would you be kind enough to accept nominations from here as well?
Anyway, if you ever felt that #Morrowind would be fun to play with other people, then consider donating to the developer of #TES3MP. Or maybe to some developers of @openmw , as the multiplayer project is derived from that.

  4. Wait, how is EU's Open Source Observatory not here on Mastodon, but it is on Twitter? 🤔

  5. Razer Linda was a prototype #lapdock showcased 7 years ago at CES.
A laptop-shaped shell that had a slot for phone instead of a touchpad.
A concept that I would really like to try out.
Project seems to have been abandoned, and there was no successor.
All right, then question is, how to make it by yourself?
Are there any projects that provide schematics or components for building this kind of thing?
If not, is anyone willing to help me brainstorm possible ways of crafting this?
    #DIY #3dprint

  6. @frameworkcomputer
Make a #lapdock with a hole for phone instead of a touchpad.
Like Razer Linda was meant to be.
Use the existing Framework case, screen and other components.
But no need for expensive processor and other electronics, as phone will provide all of that.
Android is about to get improved desktop mode soon, so there will be more interest for lapdocks.

  7. Played around with #mobox a bit
    Looks like it has potential.
Managed to win a round of C&C Red Alert 2
But currently it requires quite a lot of patience and prior knowledge of how #wine and #LinuxGaming work

  8. Apparently #FairPhone 6 will have USB 2 OTG instead of USB 3.
Which means no desktop mode on external monitor.
At least by default. I am interested to see, what kind of hacks will community come up with to get it working.

  9. At least I am not aware of any such product or project. If you know of some obscure thing that is hiding somewhere in the depths of the internet, please do let me know.

Some #SBC could probably be used to handle the required processing and relay signals to the phone.
Are there any projects that turn something like #esp32 into an USB #dock ?

Also what is every relevant #tag for this discussion?

  10. @tizilogic
Good question. If they make Steam Deck successor with ARM CPU, then it would be safe to assume that #Box86 / #Box64 is going to be part of it.
So keep an eye on that project, see if Valve is contributing to it.

Commafeed is a very good open source self-hosted replacement for Google Reader.
Has been my #RSS reader for many years now. It used whole width of my screen when other readers did not. And it even got an interface refresh recently.

  17. Just heard the term "Limbic Capitalism" used in this video:
    youtube.com/watch?v=o4OOLmvjzj
(I would have wrapped it into farside.link/ , but all #invidious and #piped instances very rarely play youtube videos)

Seems like an important term, very relevant to today's society. But internet search for it shows that there is no #Wikipedia article for it yet.
Anyone here feel like helping write it?

  19. is Android x86 project dead?
    android-x86.org/
last update was from more than a year ago
website's Contact Us says that IRC is still on Freenode
and while there is \#android-x86 channel on libera.chat, it has only 10 people in it.

Are there better ways of running #Android on PC, either on some host OS or bare-metal?
Is #Anbox or some alternative the way to go?
    edit:
    github.com/anbox says
"now in 2023 it's no longer actively developed."

  20. @lps
Also #invidious for Youtube, #teddit for Reddit, and there are many more.

One very awesome thing is #farside
    farside.link/

It redirects between multiple instances, and it supports various types of them.

So for example, opening this link will #RickRoll you through a different Invidious instance each time:
    farside.link/invidious/watch?v

This is very good way of combating #LinkRot

Also #LibRedirect is awesome browser addon.
    libredirect.github.io/

  21. #farside needs to get more attention
    It's an #OpenSource , #PrivacyRedirect for alternative frontends like #nitter , #teddit , #Invidious , etc.
It's like LibRedirect, but for everyone who clicks on the link.

    github.com/benbusby/farside

One of the drawbacks that is still holding me back from using it all the time is that it does not create embedded URL preview. While if you link directly to nitter or teddit instance, embed works fine.

    Example of no embed:
    farside.link/invidious/watch?v

    #SelfHosting

  22. This is slowly driving me insane.
The promise of having a computer in your pocket is so close.
Modern #Smartphone has enough processing power to do most if not all basic tasks that people use computers for.
But #software for this is severely lacking. Especially on #OpenSource side, when you #DeGoogle your phone.
    * bad external monitor support in #AOSP / #LineageOS
    * #UserLAnd development halted
    * #limboemu development halted

It was going so well, but now suddenly no interest
    What am I missing?
