Systematic injustice is not accidental. It’s built into laws, platforms, and power structures.
From algorithmic bias to surveillance, these systems harm vulnerable groups by design.
💬 This term, grounded in the work of Iris Marion Young and Kimberlé Crenshaw, is essential for understanding power today.

Good Morning #Canada
In 2022, this town was voted by CBC readers and viewers as the "Best Small Town in B.C.". Sure, it's got skiing, golf, scenery, and friendly people but it's also a destination for your next #BigStuffInSmallTowns road trip. Kimberley's downtown was designed to resemble a Bavarian tourist village, so it features an almost 7 metre tall cuckoo clock where Happy Hans, a Bavarian-style mountaineer, announces the time.#CanadaIsAwesome #Yodel

Macnamara Candidate Forum on Climate and Energy
PECAN and GECAN, two Climate and Energy community networks within the Macnamara electorate, have once again organised a Federal election forum on Climate and Energy. It features candidates from two major political parties, Josh Burns, ALP, and Sonya Semmens, The Greens. The Liberal candidate declined our invitation to participate.
The event will be moderated by Jo Chandler journalist and senior lecturer from the Centre for Advancing Journalism, The University of Melbourne. We will commence proceedings with a guest speaker Dr Kimberley Reid, Climate Scientist, The University of Melbourne. She will be followed by introductory comments from the candidates. The floor will then be opened for questions from you, the audience.
7 – 9pm Tue, 1 Apr, St Kilda Town Hall

"Ruiz has been a cangrejero for more than 20 years, and in that time, he and his fellow crabbers have overcome pirates, unforgiving weather, and an aggressive shrimp farming industry. Now, organized crime and drug trafficking threaten to undo those gains."

I can't imagine spending my entire 39 years convincing the government that I live here and need some rights to determine what goes on here.
Nevemind that my efforts wouldn't have been successful were it not for a champion (Eddie #Mabo) 3500km away taking his people's fight to the High Court of Australia eight years after I started.

This "Magnificent Tree Frog" actually likes to live among rocks; whatevs. Discovered in western Australia's far north on a sanctuary, these frogs have yellow & blue skin tones but the yellow is inhibited, making the entire surface blue. It's totally cool, I get it, but why aren't we hearing more about where they get their little toupees?

I was going to share a pretty photo I’d taken, and then head to bed. But I tripped over this photo, so you’ll just have to deal with it.
For reasons lost in the mists of time (Google+ was still a thing), Mollie and I were talking about the term “Willy Warmer”. No, I don’t know why. Somehow how this got conflated with Doctor Who (they’re both British?) and Mollie suggested that if you were to inscribe something on one, it should say, “It’s Bigger On The Inside”.
I mentioned this to my online friend crowd (on Google+), and Kimberley Chapman, a cake designer, knitter, and Doctor Who (and Star Trek) fanatic, was inspired to celebrate the concept by actually making one!
Apparently it led to some interesting park bench conversations while she was working on it.
She offered to send me the completed piece, but the proportions are somewhat out of my weight class, and we couldn’t quite imagine hanging it over the mantelpiece. As far as I know, she still has the original. But I did memeify a photo of it.

Speaking of the water #rat in Australia. #Rakali is known to perform surgical precision to safely eat poisonous cane toads.
“The rats, which can grow to over 1kg, are the only mammal found to specifically target large toads, neatly dissecting the toads to eat their hearts and livers while avoiding the poisonous skin and glands.”
