#HappyBirthday to Brooke Mackenzie Henderson, born OTD in 1997 in Smiths Falls Ontario. She is Canada's most accomplished golfer with 20 pofessional wins, including 14 on the LPGA. Henderson was named the Canadian Press female athlete of the year for 2015, 2017 and 2018. At the recent Canadian championship tournament she was praised by younger Canadian competitors for being a role model and helping in them in their careers.#CanadaIsAwesome #Golf

The Canadian Lynx is predominantly found in Canada but is rarely seen by Canadians. Its habitat range is well above where our population is dense and it is primarily a night hunter. As a #Wildlife species, Felis Lynx Canadensis was first recognized in 1792. This medium sized furry feline with pointy ears, a genetic cousin of the Bobcat, is not considered to be an #EndangeredSpecies. They are cute, but definitely not pets. -

In 1944, the St. Roch sailed back from Halifax to Vancouver via the Northwest Passage in a single season, taking just 86 days. In 1967 we celebrated Canada's 100th birthday. In that same year the Republic of Rathnelly, a small neighbourhood near Casa Loma in Toronto, declared their independence. They created a flag, announced a Queen, and issued passports. It was a brilliant act of #CivilDisobedience meant to stop the planned Spadina Expressway that would have cut the #Community in half. I hope we see innovative protests to stop Ford's Hwy 413. -

Last week, one of my most frequent golf buddies ruptured his Achilles tendon playing #Pickleball. His 4-6 month recovery and physical therapy has impacted my golf season so he'll have to make that up to me. For us older athletes, he and I turn 70 in August, it's important to compete according to your age, and not imagine you're 2 decades younger. Here's a CBC report on how to be careful out there. -

It's amazing that 15 years has passed since the beginning of the End of the World. The #Rapture was scheduled to take place on May 21st, 2011, with the ultimate destruction of the planet about 5 months later. Back then many of us failed to circle the date on our calendars or call in sick so we could hide under some blankets. But thousands sold all their possessions and traveled to Vietnam (?) #HappyBirthday to Jean Drapeau, Mayor of Montreal 1954-57 and 1960-86. Born on this day in 1916, in Montreal, he passed away in 1999. His legacy includes delivering Canada's Centennial birthday party #Expo67 and the 1976 #SummerOlympics to the city. But his most famous quote haunted him for years...“The Games could no more run a deficit than a man could have a baby."

It's Apple Cider Day and a perfect opportunity to share information on the resurgence of the local craft cidery. Once a staple in rural Canada, Cider was pushed out of daily consumption by beer and people moving to cities. In the 1980s, locally made apple cider started to make a comeback, led by Quebec despite the fact that almost half of Canada’s fruit farms are in British Columbia.#CanadaIsAwesome #AppleCider
