Apparently it's International Bacon Day - not to be confused with Bacon Lovers Day (August 20th) or National Bacon Day (December 20th). And you are only allowed to celebrate with #Bacon, not Back Bacon or Peameal Bacon. Follow the rules and no one gets hurt.
Here's a public service announcement from the Canadian Pork Council explaining why reducing our meat intake is unhealthy. I trust them...How much meat do we eat?

Yesterday's post on Skyscrapers elicited a response from @wordstitcher asking if a list of old Post Office buildings existed. I couldn't find one but did discover the Heritage Railway Station Act that has saved 150+ stations across Canada. Many are unique "Chateau" styled buildings that are still in use or have been repurposed as libraries or community centres.#CanadaIsAwesome #Architecture #History

Did you know that Toronto, widely acknowledged as the centre of the universe, is the #2 city in North America with the most #Skyscrapers measured by buildings over 150m. That factoid is brought to you by Skyscraper Day, when every September 3rd we are encouraged to look up and appreciate the towering architecture. And there are 14 new skyscrapers nearing completion.Skyscrapers: The Canadian Encyclopedia

According to the National Retail Foundation, customers return $850B worth of products asking for refunds. Many of those goods end up in second hand shops, along with discontinued, excess, or out of season apparel. And today is National Thrift Shop Day, celebrating stores who help keep those goods from landfills, and shoppers who are looking for bargains.#CanadaIsAwesome #ReverseLogistics #Repurpose

In downtown Toronto you can find Simcoe Park and the 100 Workers Monument. Erected in 2000, it was an initiative of Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Board to shine a light on workplace safety. The monument features 100 plaques that describe an actual fatal on-the-job accident from 1901 to 1999, some mundane and others gruesome. A final plaque was left blank to represent future tragedy.#CanadaIsAwesome #WorkplaceSafety

Under a sprawling Toronto block of condo towers, offices, shops and six levels of underground parking, lies a huge battery. Known as "the well", it's a thermal battery full of water that provides heating and cooling to surrounding buildings. It's part of the Toronto district energy system that uses Lake Ontario to heat and cool over 100 buildings in the downtown area.#CanadaIsAwesome #EnergyConservation

It's amazing that 15 years has passed since the beginning of the End of the World. The #Rapture was scheduled to take place on May 21st, 2011, with the ultimate destruction of the planet about 5 months later. Back then many of us failed to circle the date on our calendars or call in sick so we could hide under some blankets. But thousands sold all their possessions and traveled to Vietnam (?) To await the event.#CanadaIsAwesome #Doomsday

The Mole Mobile, a #Dermatology clinic in a customized RV, will be visiting major Canadian cities again this summer. Look for the Mole Mobile in any town experiencing long wait times to see a dermatologist, underserved communities, rural and Indigenous regions, with the objective of improving diagnosis for skin cancer. Hundreds of patients are typically screened at each stop and immediately referred if cancer is found.#CanadaIsAwesome #FuckCancer

Breakfast is done, coffee is brewing, and a slice of banana bread is awaiting it's demise. So I have no time for crafting my usually informative yet idiotic posts. It's almost time for #TeamCanada to once again take on our rivals across our southern border. You will have to make do with this compilation of #OlympicHockey records for Canada's men's and women's teams.

The Beaver is the only mammal, besides humans, that is able to re-engineer their environment to support their lifestyle. Humans can use this Beaver superpower for good, rebuilding #Watersheds and increasing storage of water to combat drought and wildfires. Provinces are reintroduc8ng Beavers to their historical habitats, and even moving pairs of Beavers to desert regions in the U.S. to totally transform landscapes.#CanadaIsAwesome #BeaverWeek #Engineering

In 2022, this town was voted by CBC readers and viewers as the "Best Small Town in B.C.". Sure, it's got skiing, golf, scenery, and friendly people but it's also a destination for your next #BigStuffInSmallTowns road trip. Kimberley's downtown was designed to resemble a Bavarian tourist village, so it features an almost 7 metre tall cuckoo clock where Happy Hans, a Bavarian-style mountaineer, announces the time.#CanadaIsAwesome #Yodel

On this day in 1935, Newfoundland decides to change their official clocks to 3½ hrs west of Greenwich. This gives Newfoundland a 30 minute head start on the day, ahead of eastern Canada. Today is National Coffee Break Day, not to be confused with National Coffee Day on September 29th. We're're up early today waiting for a taxi to take us to the airport, but #CoffeeFirst. Canadians rank #11 worldwide for per capita consumption of coffee, approximately 1.57 cups per day, or close to 35,000 cups in a lifetime. No stats on TimBits consumption are available.#CanadaIsAwesome

It's #InternationalCoffeeDay and a good opportunity to review our place in the world when considering this morning beverage. We rank 6th in total coffee consumption and 3rd in regular drinkers (71% consume daily, average of 2.7 cups per day). Vancouver, Toronto, and Ottawa rank highly in terms of coffee shops per capita. Not surprising in a country where 9 out of 10 Canadians can see a Timmies from their roof.#CanadaIsAwesome #CoffeeFirst

Canada is considered a Tier 1 country according to the Global Social Progress Index, and we are ranked 15th in the world (USA is 29th). The attached link provides access to the data - select Canada in the Scorecards section to view world rankings in key areas.
