  1. Good Morning #Canada
This week PM Carney announced the building of 6 new #Icebreakers for the #CCG - Canadian Coast Guard services. In commemorate that event I think we need a #CCG_Week full of #History , facts and stories about this important department. The CCG was officially announced in 1962, although many of its responsibilities were handled by various ministries dating back to 1867. Fasten your life jackets for the week ahead.

The long range forecast for the eastern half of Canada reports that we can expect a longer fall and a delayed start to winter. That means plenty of time for a #RoadTrip and some out of this world #BigStuffInSmallTowns. Welcome to Moonbeam Ontario where a #UFO has landed, and is still there. The saucer is only 3 metres high which means the green men or women are little. Cannabis recommended while visiting.

  11. Good Morning #Canada
25 years ago, as the USA was under terrorist attack, Canada stepped up to accept 230+ international flights across the country and provide accommodation and food for over 30,000 travellers, many of whom were Americans. Gander became the most famous host as the small town of less than 10,000 took in 6,100 stranded passengers. But that compassion was evident across Canada.

#HappyBirthday to Brooke Mackenzie Henderson, born OTD in 1997 in Smiths Falls Ontario. She is Canada's most accomplished golfer with 20 pofessional wins, including 14 on the LPGA. Henderson was named the Canadian Press female athlete of the year for 2015, 2017 and 2018. At the recent Canadian championship tournament she was praised by younger Canadian competitors for being a role model and helping in them in their careers.

  21. The Greatest Manhunt: Chasing the Mad Trapper

The 48-day pursuit became an epic struggle against the Arctic winter. The RCMP, aided by Gwich'in trackers, chased him over 240 km. The manhunt made history with the first use of an aircraft for pursuit, piloted by WWI flying ace Wop May. His aerial reconnaissance was crucial in tracking the fugitive across the vast, unforgiving terrain. #Canada #MadTrapper #WopMay #CanadaIsAwesome 🇨🇦

The Canadian Lynx is predominantly found in Canada but is rarely seen by Canadians. Its habitat range is well above where our population is dense and it is primarily a night hunter. As a #Wildlife species, Felis Lynx Canadensis was first recognized in 1792. This medium sized furry feline with pointy ears, a genetic cousin of the Bobcat, is not considered to be an #EndangeredSpecies. They are cute, but definitely not pets.

  31. St. Roch's Triumph: Circumnavigating a Continent

In 1944, the St. Roch sailed back from Halifax to Vancouver via the Northwest Passage in a single season, taking just 86 days. This feat made it the first vessel to transit the passage in both directions and the first to circumnavigate North America. The voyage was a powerful demonstration of Canadian skill and Arctic sovereignty. #Canada #StRoch #CanadaIsAwesome #ArcticExploration 🇨🇦

On September 8th we celebrate International Literacy Day and this year it coincides with #BackToSchool. Canada's education system is well regarded worldwide and our #Literacy rates are slightly above the world average. But there are gaps with 15% of Canadians considered functionally illiterate.
#StatsCan provides us with an excellent snapshot of Literacy, Numeracy and Adaptive Problem-Solving skills of Canadians.

Toronto's Line 5, referred to as the Eglinton Crosstown, has been open for over 6 months and the general consensus locally is that it's pretty good. This excellent video provides a review of the LRT, including the supporting network, benefits, negatives, and Toronto's overall design philosophy for #PublicTransit. It rightly points out Canada is generally bad at design and is still in love with cars.

When I'm working on a #TravelCanada post I sometimes realize that I don't give Saskatchewan a lot of attention. I apologize to the Saskies in my audience. Remember, when you're taking the grids it's local courtesy to wave or nod as you drive by.
