I've posted previously that my Good Morning #Canada content is primarily for my edification. This past series, #CCG_Week , has been one of my favourite - right up there with #BeaverWeek. I got hooked by the combination of service, technology, nature and personal stories. There's still a lot of interesting content that I'll likely release in the months ahead. Perhaps we need a series on #DND and the #RCMP.

THE CGS Stanley (CGS = Canadian Government Ship) was Canada's 1st #Icebreaker , launched in 1888. But the 1st #CCGS Icebreaker was the 96m John A. Macdonald, a heavy icebreaker launched in 1960 and transferred in 1962 into the newly created Canadian Coast Guard. It remained in service until being decommissioned in 1991. The Federal Minister of Public Safety has responsibility for the National Search and Rescue Program and coordination of #SAR policy with all agencies that deliver those services. The #CCGS reports into the Department of National Defence but follows federal guidelines when coordination is needed. On their own the #CCGS rescues an average of 12 to 15 people a day across the country. -

Erected in 2000, it was an initiative of Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Board to shine a light on workplace safety. The monument features 100 plaques that describe an actual fatal on-the-job accident from 1901 to 1999, some mundane and others gruesome. A final plaque was left blank to represent future tragedy.#CanadaIsAwesome #WorkplaceSafety

It's National Fishing Day, which means that with over two million lakes and rivers that flow into five major ocean drainage basins, Canadians will be pulling on hip waders and checking tackle boxes. There are 3.5M recreational anglers in Canada, plus another 700K (ish) tourists, driving a $1.75B dollar industry. The fishing capital of Canada is Kingston, Ontario... according to Kingston area "experts."#CanadaIsAwesome #GoneFishing
