THE CGS Stanley (CGS = Canadian Government Ship) was Canada's 1st #Icebreaker , launched in 1888. But the 1st #CCGS Icebreaker was the 96m John A. Macdonald, a heavy icebreaker launched in 1960 and transferred in 1962 into the newly created Canadian Coast Guard. It remained in service until being decommissioned in 1991. Here's some vintage video of the ship from March 1961.#CanadaIsAwesome #CCG_Week #History
