With Trump's visit to China, I thought it's a good day to read up on Canada’s diplomatic relations with our 2nd largest trading partner. We officially recognized China in 1909 and it has been a rocky relationship as that country embraced communism and then became a manufacturing behemoth and where we unfortunately outsourced our factories. Carney has slightly improved relations but they remain difficult to trade with.

Despite the best efforts of Canadian Geographic magazine, Canada does not have a national bird. A decade ago they held a survey intended to have Canadians choose their favourite bird and the winner - the Gray Jay - would be rubber stamped by Parliament. Didn't happen. Politicians refused to flock to the idea and the whole project laid an egg. I like Tod's recommendations and vote we put him in charge.

In our 4th year of posting about #BigStuffInSmallTowns, it's time to revisit one of our earliest attractions. The world's biggest Beaver will be 22 years old this July and obviously is Canada's top destination for a #RoadTrip. Beaverlodge Alberta will celebrate 97 years of history this summer and I can only imagine the hijinks that will happen during their Centennial. Plan ahead.

If we were choosing the best Canadian #Mom, it's obviously my dear departed mother, or my awesome wife, or oldest daughter who has raised a very bright granddaughter. But well down the ranking there are others and the interwebs are full of lists offering opinions. I like this one because it focuses on the tremendous impact that each of the woman had on Canada.

In May of 1604 a French merchant and colonizer, had reached Nova Scotia and was on his way to found the first permanent French settlement in Canada. He was given control of a huge amount of undiscovered land and was Lieutenant General of New France from 1603 to 1610. Ultimately he lost his monopoly and turned over his colonizing interests to some nobody named Samuel de Champlain.

Lots of conversations about Artificial Intelligence on CBC Radio this AM causing me to wonder what do Canadians think about #AI? Luckily for me Abacus Data published an extensive survey in September of 2025. In general, lower income and older Canadians are skeptical about AI, and 52% overall don't really trust our government to manage how the tool will be controlled or to safeguard us.
Lots of data here to absorb.
