When I'd sometimes meet mom for dinner, she'd tell me how much stuff she was getting rid of and that it felt so good to be clearing things out.
After she passed away and her younger sister (my aunt) gave me boxes of mom's things, I was pleasantly surprised at just how much she'd kept. I wasn't expecting that at all.
It most certainly makes that stuff all the more special. Like this little sweater of mine that I found in one of the boxes.
