Crinum asiaticum, which is commonly known as #poisonbulb, #giantcrinumlily, or #spiderlily is a plant found in many warmer regions as an ornamental.
It is native to Indian Ocean islands, East Asia, tropical Asia, Australia and Pacific islands.
The conditions in #Melbourne #Australia are perfect for this plant, as can be seen here by it’s general health and condition.
Not so good for pet owners however, as all parts of the plant are poisonous (if eaten).

Atop of #LakeMountain mid winter is simply stunning.
It is cool, 3 degrees Celsius (mid 30’s F), with lows of 0… enough for a light covering of snow, overnight which has already melted.
Here are a few pictures from the peak, at the Lake Mountain Ski Resort in #victoria, #Australia.
Man-made snow is produced overnight atm though, for the kid’s tobogganing run.
I believe we’re in for cooler weather shortly, which should cover the ski fields with quality powdery snow coverage.

Hi Jen! Good question!!
Generally Australia does not experience wide spread #snow falls during #winter but we do have what’s knows as our #HighCountry in the State of Victoria.
We do have #snowfields, good skiing in general. Most of Victoria's alpine resorts lie to the north-east of Melbourne. Anywhere from say 2 to 4.5 hrs drive from our capital city Melbs.
These are a few of Victoria’s snowfields: #LakeMountain, #MtBawBaw, #MtBuller and #MtStirling, #MtHotham and #FallsCreek.

#newsouthwales has awesome snowfields. The largest ski resort in the #SouthernHemisphere is #Perisher. It has 47 lifts, plenty of runs, five terrain parks and around 100km of cross country trails. In #Thredbo you can ski Australia’s longest runs.
The Australian State of a #Tasmania, the island located to the south of Victoria, experiences flurries and snow falls throughout winter too. It’s closer to the #SouthPole. #Tassie is a gorgeous part of our country. 👏👍

This is an original post from earlier today. I found a curious orange growth in Victoria, Australia, in the dead of our warm summer and was surprised to be honest.
A fellow #mastodian suggested it could be a Rainbow Bracket Fungus.
And another person (thanks @marklngs.aus.social) suggested I throw it to the experts at #FungiFriday to confirm or otherwise!

Missed tonight’s #MelbourneSunset propper but by all accounts, it was some sight to behold.
Especially for mid-winter.
However, @Witchy_Minx caught the post #sunset within minutes of the sun going down (looking over #AlbertParkLake #SouthMelbourne).
Whilst I managed to snap the western skies around 30 mins following sunset. From the inner eastern suburbs of #Melbs.
A fair team effort i think!

Anyone know what this is?
I wanted to say #GladiolusCommunis and exclaim ‘#HelloPossums!!’
But I had a sneaking suspicion it could be something totally different.
And so too does my ID app… in fact it suggests anything from #Lobelia, #Montbretia, #CannaLily - and yes of course… #Gladiolus!
Google image search wanted to tell me it’s a gladdy… but you know what.. I’m not so sure.
Whatever it is, ‘twas snapped on my sisters farm in #Centralvictoria a few weeks back… deep red and it is happy as Larry.

My ID App tells me this is #BostonIvy.
If it is, it’s absolutely loving this building!
It’s healthy and green… I love the upper most part that has turned a shade of orangey/brown/red, I’m guessing due to the locale to the sun.
I’d expect this to turn colour soon with the onset of #autumn in a month or two.
I might just have to revisit this beauty in the near future to see!

On a lovely sunny day, these #Eucalyptuscaesia, aka #silverprincess display a white, if not silvery shimmer to their branches and fruit.
Rubbing the branch or fruit reveals a wax-like substance that is attributed to their rather unique aesthetic.
I love how these almost hang (or weep) in their display.
They really are quite stunning in appearance, for mine.

This unique tree is a #caesia (#SilverPrincess), from the #eucalypt family. It is native to the south-west of #WesternAustralia.
It typically grows to a height of 2 to 14 metres (6.6 to 45.9 ft) and the young branches are shiny red, covered with a waxy bluish, white bloom.
I have seen a few of these throughout the weeks during high sunshine and they almost look silver as the light hits their surface.
They flower during the colder months (mid year in Australia) - the flowers have pink stamens with yellow anthers on the tip.
They also have fruit (the bell shaped woody bulb) as pictured.
Leaves are elongated and these ones look happy and healthy.
