  1. Hi folks, *insert Bernie Sanders meme* but Im once again asking your help to send an email to the Australian Government about their recovery plan for the Gang-gang cockatoo and the Red-tailed Black Cockatoo.

    Today is the last day.

The government needs to know that you care and that this affects your voting decisions. Even that email alone will help.

But Birdlife Australia has kindly created an email template where you can fill out with your details and will automatically do the rest for you.

If you want a customised email, you can send it before 11:59pm 7 October 2026 (TODAY) to [email protected]

Please, if you have 2 mins today.

    Our birds need this.

  3. Galahs have pink or dark eyes

What a setting for this gorgeous Galah! She looks dozy and very floofy, framed by the blue blue Outback sky:

Male and female Galahs are very similar. The easiest way to tell a female from a male is that the females have pink eyes, like the one in my photo, whereas the males have dark eyes. (You can see the difference in this post, which has both male and female birds.)

    Common name: Galah
    Scientific name: Cacatua roseicapilla
    Approximate length: 35-38 cm
Date spotted: 11 September 2026 (spring)
Location: Bendleby Ranges in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia: 32°21’13.7″S 138°47’34.8″E

  5. A bunch of Sulphur Crested Cockatoos came on a rare visit to our yard. They are everywhere in our suburb, but only visit our yard rarely.

  6. Pretty good day today. Hazy winter light across the city. Been out shooting broll most of the day. Came home to find this fella in need of a walnut.

  7. Little Corellas are brown in Broken Hill

They’re not really brown. They just look that way because they spend time rolling in the outback mud and in tree hollows. This Little Corella is examining the architecture in Argent Street, Broken Hill:

I haven’t seen such a soiled Corella before. The colouring brings out the blue around the bird’s eye. It does look rather dishevelled though!

    Common name: Little Corella
    Scientific name: Cacatua sanguinea
    Approximate length: 36-39 cm
Date spotted: 21 July 2026 (winter)
Location: Broken Hill, NSW, Australia: 31°57’30.7″S 141°27’54.3″E

  9. Week four: the reward my rest bought. A fortnight off ended with three days in the Grampians — a near-6-hour Pinnacle hike with the girls, waterfalls, a rare Gang-Gang #Cockatoo. Recharged and adventured, a little heavier, and honest about it. Push, then recover. #Grampians #hiking 🍄

Male palm cockatoos craft drumsticks from branches and use them to drum on their prepared tree hollows in the tops of old-growth #trees. Each male has its own rhythmic style, sometimes drumming 200 beats in a row.

  12. The on campus cockatoos will not be distracted from their lunch of fallen seed pods by a mere human getting up in their faces with a camera.
