Why do I keep checking Humble Bundle for new book bundles when a) I haven't read the vast majority of books that I've already bought and b) they're so frequently disappointing because there's an increasing amount of GenAI bullshit in there? 😕
(The obvious answer is "in case there's another Black Library bundle… and it actually has NEW stuff")

I see Games Workshop are taking inspiration from Cold War British AFVs again.
At first glance, I thought the Hippogriff was a Saladin armoured car. And the Centaur looks an awful lot like a half-track version of the Humber Pig.
Not that I blame them, mind. I've always liked both the Saladin and the Pig. It just took me by surprise to see what I initially took to be a Saracen in a WH40K display.

It is interesting to go back to the very early issues of White Dwarf magazine and see RPG luminaries speak of concepts I had to form on my own. In Issue #7 from June 1978, none other than Gary Gygax wrote an article entitled
THOUGHTS ON THE PROLIFERATION OF MAGIC ITEMS IN D&D
"First and foremost no magic items should ever be for sale in a D&D campaign! Never? Well, almost never. Let's leave the qualifiers for a bit later on and get t o the basics first. Magic items are the weight factors in the game. They can be the balance, they can overbalance. They are also the "plums" in the pie. Players immediately recognize the desirability of these items and evidence a strong wish to acquire as many as possible. They do so to assure character survival, but secretly hope for character dominance as well - either by the sheer power of the items or by employment of magic therein t o defeat and loot encountered monsters and rise In level accordingly. The game does not envision any easy access t o magic items, and the introduction of magic shops where players can purchase such is anethma."

Someone's selling one of the 54mm Inquisitor models on eBay and it still has its old blue "£18" sticker in the corner!
Inquisitor was from 2001. According to the Bank of England, that £18 is now £35. The auction starts at £52 (because it's rare and sealed, I guess).
But how much would Games Workshop charge for a 54mm scale full metal Space Marine these days? I bet it would be more than £35! (Or it would be plastic and still more than £35!)

On the one hand, I enjoy reading all the Warhammer eBooks that I've got.
On the other hand, do I *actually* ENJOY reading them or is it just a familiar and comfortable world and I like feeling that I now know more about it? 🫤

I am not sure what is up with our local #GamesWorkshop Warhammer store. I have stopped by during posted business hours 4 times, and they were closed each time. The signage had different explanations: vacation, illness, training, etc.

I painted up the Space Marine captain in Terminator armour from issue one of Combat Patrol magazine as a Raptor chapter captain. (yet to add a Raptor decal to the pouldron). Not bad for four hours work if I do say so myself.

We got into Warhammer in 1995 (peak Warhammer/40K 2nd/Mordheim/Titan Legions/Blood Bowl/etc). Now, at nearly 40, my brother is getting back into painting.
He was in his local store. The manager is a similar age but started more 2000s, so he remembers some bits of Red Period and the turn of the millennium games but is only vaguely aware of other bits.
While getting his Mini of the Month, my brother was educating the 20-something staffer on the Red Period style that he was going to use. And then mentioned John Blanche. And the guy goes "who?" 😮
My brother had to call over the manager for this flagrant shortcoming. But apparently Blanche is part of Deep Lore that they don't cover in standard staff training.
But… it feels like working for the Tolkien Estate and not knowing the work of Alan Lee or John Howe.
Or working on the Man United Old Trafford tour and saying "Eric Canto-who? And Peter Schmi-something? Nope, dunno" 😐
