I grew up in a village where pretty much everyone knew everyone else, and always acknowledged each other. If you went to town #BishopAuckland it was the same, you probably vaguely knew folk but it was standard practice, polite, to acknowledge people in passing.
What a culture shock when my mother moved us to the Quaker town of #DARLINGTON Woe betide you if you even caught the gaze of a stranger there (1960s and 1970s).
I didn’t know what had hit me.
I moved around with work. Time in Yorkshire made me see Darlo’ differently. Returning from Yorkshire made Darlington folk seem… well… ‘darling’.
And don’t get me started on my time in #Dundee
It’s a funny old world… Very, very glad to be back within my own culture in the north-east.
