  5. Have just spent a couple of hours in the Spanish Gallery in Bishop Auckland & what an amazing museum it is. Not least, as up until recently one would not have expected to find it in the town.

Across four floors there is a great collection of Spanish art from the Renaissance & a little after, including some wonderful wood/polychrome statues.

If you are in the area (or looking for a arty day trip) I can unreservedly recommend it!

  6. Welcome to the Spanish Gallery and Auckland Palace.

These two areas we missed last year when we visited Bishop Auckland, but we were so glad to check them out this time.

Loads more photos from this day are right here -> iancylkowski.com/blog/2024/10/

Can you spot what's different about these images? 🤔

  8. @gruff Great article-some beautiful country/seaside places are kept intentionally poor. Rural Wales & English North- #BishopAuckland like #Merthyr-a long high street of misery-closed shops & dealers prowling in blacked out cars. #Ely “NGO income from donations, grants and partnerships with the state has dried up just at the point at which demand has never been higher. Nationally, for example, donations to foodbanks have fallen to the point that they have had to buy food directly.”
